Your Day to Day
Safety
  • Ensure that JCC crews and other on-site personnel comply with safety requirements.
  • Train JCC crews in safety methods and procedures.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings.
  • Maintain the work areas clear of hazards and debris.
  • Maintain equipment and tools to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Perform daily inspections of the equipment in use and coordinate with the Warehouse to take appropriate action to maintain the equipment in safe, efficient operating condition.

Work Planning and Direction
  • Become acutely aware of the general flow and pace of the work as planned by the Superintendent.
  • Understand how your work assignment fits into the general flow of the work.
  • Get general knowledge of plans and specifications to ensure your work is in conformance to project requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise JCC functions (personnel requirements, layout, JCC equipment selection, working conditions, JCC materials, production methods, clean-up, etc.) in conjunction with the Concrete Project Manager.
  • Communicate your plans and needs with your Concrete Project Manager and appropriate departments (such as Warehouse Services) in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with the concrete PM or the Warehouse to oversee the maintenance and care of JCC-owned equipment and rental equipment assigned to your site.
  • Provide JCC crew with guidance and direction (i.e. interpret plans and specifications, obtain/prepare clarification drawings, recommend methods and equipment, etc.) to assist in proper work performance.
  • Routinely clearly communicate plans and delegate responsibility for execution to Foremen.
  • Motivate Foremen and finishers to top performance.
  • Ensure that quality work is a top priority.
  • Analyze and resolve problems and assist others in solving problems.
  • Monitor your work plan. Update weekly and adjust as required.
  • Plan ahead, communicate ahead and order ahead to avoid delays.

Contract Administration
  • Provide accurate, timely daily reports.
  • Accurately prepare time cards and production records.
  • Report work quantities in place daily but no later than weekly.
  • Perform other assignments as directed by the Project Manager.

Scheduling
  • Monitor the progress of the work you are responsible for (use your work plan) to ensure that the project schedule is being achieved.
  • Complete work in a timely and efficient manner to maintain schedule, productivity and quality expectations.
  • Leave your work and work areas well-organized and in a condition, that will contribute to the efficiency and success of others who follow you

Training and Evaluation
  • Instruct and train workforce in proper, efficient, safe methods of construction.
  • Regularly communicate your expectations in a clear and concise manner and provide appropriate constructive feedback (e.g. positive and negative) to encourage continued improvement in workforce performance.
  • Administer appropriate discipline to employees by explaining what behavior is wrong and indicating expectations for correction. Send in properly prepared written documentation in a timely manner of these discussions.
  • Perform effective craft worker evaluations in keeping with the Craft Evaluation Policy.
  • Delegate responsibilities to Foremen to help expand their knowledge and abilities.
  • Seek input and ideas for improvement from crew members.

Human Relations
  • Support and promote the JCC philosophy and formula.
  • Demonstrate and promote a positive "can do" attitude.
  • Ensure that JCC's human resource policies are adhered to.
  • Listen to employees with respect and patience to appropriately deal with their problems and concerns.
  • Confer with the Concrete Superintendent, General Superintendent and Management to resolve complaints and grievances within the work force.
  • Respond to and resolve conflicts quickly and fairly.
  • Treat others as you would like to be treated

Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of previous experience as a Carpenter Foreman with another employer OR Minimum 6 months experience with satisfactory performance as a Lead Carpenter with Jacobsen Construction
