Job Description

The General Counsel (GC) at SeneGence is a key executive leader responsible for providing strategic legal counsel and guidance to the company. Reporting directly to the President, the GC oversees all aspects of legal affairs and compliance, ensuring that the organization operates within the bounds of the law and maintains a strong ethical foundation. The GC leads the Legal & Compliance departments and collaborates with other senior leaders to support the company's mission, growth, and success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expert legal advice and counsel to the President and senior management on a broad range of legal and business matters.
  • Oversee all legal affairs and regulatory compliance, ensuring that the company operates in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Develop and implement legal strategies and initiatives that align with the company's overall business objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Lead, manage, and mentor the Legal & Compliance teams, fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring excellence in legal services.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents to protect the company's interests and mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to address complex legal issues and provide innovative solutions to business challenges.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company's operations and advise on necessary adjustments to policies and practices.
  • Represent the company in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and government investigations, and manage relationships with outside counsel.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Marketing, Sales, R&D, and HR, to ensure that business practices and initiatives are legally sound.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters, including trademarks, patents, and copyrights, to protect the company's valuable assets.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and legal developments to guide strategic decision-making and risk management.
  • Collaborate with the President and executive team in setting the company's legal and ethical standards.
  • Manage the Legal & Compliance budget and resources effectively to achieve department goals and deliver results.
  • Other duties as requested by business need.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar and active license to practice law in the states where the company is headquartered.
  • Minimum of 12 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years in a senior leadership role
  • Experience in the cosmetics, beauty, or direct selling industry.
  • Familiarity with international legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Prior experience in managing compliance and legal affairs across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong understanding of corporate law, contract law, regulatory compliance, and intellectual property law.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic legal counsel to senior executives and managing complex legal matters.
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and develop high-performing legal teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think critically, analyze legal issues, and make sound decisions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and integrity.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED FOR POSITION:

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES REQUIRED FOR ROLE:

  • Possession of the following:
    1. Possession of a valid license to practice law in the State of Oklahoma and California or the ability to attain an Oklahoma/California license within six (6) months of employment; and,
    2. Possession of a valid state driver license.
    3. An original legal writing sample must be provided.
    4. Other assessments may also be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Physical requirements include arm and hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to use a keyboard and telephone; frequent lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; occasional pulling up to 40 pounds; may be subject to sitting for extended periods of time, walking, standing, bending, and reaching; and visions, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential tasks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working environment is primarily indoors in an office setting; requires some travel to various locations to conduct pre-trial discovery, perform trial work and appear before administrative agencies to argue appeals. Must be willing and able to work the hours necessary to accomplish the job requirements including working irregular hours to attend evening meetings and travel to attend classes, meetings and/or seminars. Position is subject to additional working hours above forty-hour work week.
