Position Description

EnCompass LLC is seeking consultants to support to support our work across several funding mechanisms related to Instructional Design, and Facilitation and Training. Our work focuses on providing high quality training services and support to various funding agencies. We provide adult professional training and learning in Washington and various international locations. Consultants will provide a combination of the following services and duties:

For US-based positions: Must be legally authorized to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.

Work Location: "Mixed Onsite & Remote" These will be consultants some of whom may be based overseas while others based here in the US. Preference for Instructional Designers is in DC so we can have client meetings. For training and Facilitation, these can DMV or other.

Position Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions:

Instructional Design:

  • Design and/or work with a team of designers to develop curricula and course materials various topics for in-person, virtual, and blended learning using creative, innovative, and evidence-based approaches
  • Develop dynamic, participatory and experiential learning session designs for adult learners including macro designs, micro designs, and Training scripts
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and senior advisors to plan, design, and develop learning events and programs for a variety of audiences
  • Contribute to development of course content for instructor-led and virtual instructor-led learning programs, and/or the creation of storyboards for e-tools, e-learning courses, and videos
  • Edit, update, and revise existing courses and curricula

Training and Facilitation:

  • Facilitate or co-facilitate participatory, experiential, and transformational virtual, in-person, and hybrid courses and events
  • Review Pre-Course Learning Needs Assessment (LNA) data and use the results to tailor the training content towards the needs of course participants
  • Work collaboratively with co-facilitator and production teams to plan and execute each session or course, synergizing expertise, and experience to achieve the learning goals of the training
  • Participate in all facilitator duties including launch calls, rehearsals, and debrief sessions, training of trainer events and meetings
  • Undergo annual observation and evaluation to ensure quality and consistency in course deliveries; travel to the DC area for in-person course delivery observation may be required

Position Requirements

Qualifications

  1. Academic qualifications for Instructional Design Consultants
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education with 7 years’ total experience; or High School and 11 years, Associate’s and 9 years, Master’s and 5 years, or PhD and 3 years
  • Degree must be in Curriculum Design, Organizational Development, Instructional Design, International Development with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in adult education curriculum design.

Particularly in the following areas:

  • Researching, drafting, and developing curriculum and Training materials
  • Working with subject matter experts and senior advisors to plan, design and develop training methodology – including blended learning and Web-based tools – and materials
  • Editing, updating, and revising existing courses and curricula

Technical qualifications for Instructional Design Consultants:

  • In-depth knowledge of the principles of adult learning, learning styles, participatory methods, and Instructional Design
  • Demonstrated experience in state-of-the-art approaches in adult-centered learning, including blended learning, experiential learning, participatory methods, Instructional Design, virtual Instructor-Led Training (vILT), e-learning, and related topics
  • Technical expertise in adult learning and one or more of the following subject matters: international development, social justice, gender and social inclusion, human resources; leadership development; supervision; management; onboarding; and workforce development
  • Experience working with USAID or other donor-funded projects strongly preferred
  1. Academic qualifications for Training and Facilitation Consultants
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the relevant technical area; or High School and 14 years, Associate’s and 12 years, Master’s and 8 years, or PhD and 6 years
  • The years of experience must include 2 years’ teaching experience

Technical qualifications for Training and Facilitation Consultants:

  • Minimum of 7 years extensive expertise in facilitating adults in participatory and experiential learning experiences both in-person and virtual facilitation
  • Technical expertise in adult learning and one or more of the following subject matters: international development, social justice, gender and social inclusion, human resources; leadership development; supervision; management; onboarding; and workforce development
  • Extensive expertise in creating inclusive and accessible learning environments for in-person and virtual participants
  • Mastery of facilitating virtual instructor-led training and activities and expertise using online Facilitation and presentation technologies
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills
  • Experience working with USAID or other donor-funded projects strongly preferred
  • Expertise in various assessment tools including 360-degree assessments, StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) among others a plus
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally required for some courses; willingness to work in non-permissive environments a plus
  • Ability to deliver virtual trainings in a variety of time zones, including EST, GMT, GMT+2, GMT+3, and GMT+7, preferred
  • Based in or near DC metro area, Thailand, South Africa, Jordan, and Ghana is a plus

All Consultants must have:

  • Experience in field of international development, working cross-culturally and/or interculturally.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with various stakeholders and to express ideas and concepts concisely and clearly
  • Ability to work in an appreciative, strengths-based environment, and to use strengths-based tools with clients
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English
  • Fluency in language(s) other than English and experience working or living overseas preferred
