Job Description

Responsible for the effective use of personnel, material, and equipment. Participates in the training, developing and evaluating of hourly team members. Participates in the development of highly effective teams. Leads Global Manufacturing Systems(GMS) processes and serves as resource supporting launch and pilot activities in assigned areas. Meets or exceeds production cost schedule and maintains quality requirements. Maintains awareness of quality standards, and communicates department quality goals, and leverages resources to solve quality issues. Builds and maintains good working relationships with employees, union and management. Understands and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements between General Motors and the United Auto Workers Union. Implements and follows systems that prevent reoccurrence of known issues. Promote safe work practices and achieve objectives for ergonomics, health and safety and housekeeping. Motivates, trains and develops employees to effectively perform their jobs utilizing standardized methods. Ensure team members receive adequate JIT (job instruction training). Achieve production schedules and product requirements by applying lean manufacturing/synchronous principles with emphasis on variation reduction, control costs, and achieve productivity improvements. Coach, teach, counsel and mentor Group Leaders in these responsibilities.

  • Supervise a team of hourly Core Team and Trainers
    • Emphasizes safety in everything we do and oversees adherence to all safety policies

  • Coordinate General Assembly Launch activities with other program leads

Product Interface & Issue Resolution Process

  • Utilize production knowledge to analyze major design, tooling and specification for SPQRC issues
  • Actively engaged with the Engineering counterpart to ensure the Process Engineering requirements are met and executed for General Assembly
  • Oversee the development of JES and SOS
  • Interact with Body Shop and Paint for resolution of General Assembly issues whose root cause is found to have originated within those departments
  • Integral member of the problem resolution teams in General Assembly, assisting in resolution of build issues in GA while ensuring that the 7- diamond problem solving process is being utilized (PRTS)
  • Executes the change management process for internal process control (tooling, material, etc.), coordinates issues and resolutions with Body Shop and Paint Shop.
  • Works with the Change Management Coordinator - Launch to develop plans for Production Trial Runs, Engineering Tryouts, Engineering Work Orders, etc. during the launch process
  • Works with the Change Management Coordinator - Launch to understand all Temporary Work Orders, reworks and part substitutions for their impact on timing
  • Participates in Daily Wrap up meeting with Manufacturing and Engineering
  • Root Cause established

  • Containment is in place and repair direction is provided to technicians in Final Process
  • Conducts meetings to resolve build issues and achieve schedule
  • Coordinates rework or replacement of MVB vehicles and readies them for shipment
  • Participates in the Process Verification Builds during IVER ensuring the operations are reviewed for safety, ergonomics, containers, tooling, etc.
  • Coordinates plant participation in easel board reviews at IVER
  • Supports the Virtual Engineering activity by “leading the discussion” for General Assembly at all Virtual Tryout events making sure issues are captured
  • Utilizes Masterdot to track program status
  • Participates in Launch Wall meetings and presents 4-box issue file and Masterdot status

Program & Deliverables Timing

  • Manages the program General Assembly Master Dot activities ensuring updates with the appropriate countermeasures.
  • Communicates General Assembly’s status to Plant Launch Operations Manager organization
  • Works with the Material Launch Manager to help coordinate and validate the material plan for General Assembly
  • Helps coordinate quality plans with Quality Systems
  • Manages hourly team to complete builds and supporting activities

Process Validation

  • Ensures that the GA manufacturing validation plan supports the acceleration schedules and comprehends the plant build restrictions
  • Helps coordinate builds with General Assembly, emphasis on Safety, Quality and Thru-put
  • Supports the development of the General Assembly dimensional tune-in plan
  • Drives ergonomics issue resolution by ensuring that General Assembly ergonomic reviews are occurring and corrective actions are developed
  • Provide leadership and Production input to GMS implementation, pulling on additional support as required
  • Manages the review and buy-off of General Assembly responsible items in vehicle retrofits execution on any vehicles before shipping
  • Provide production input to the GA layout development and operator station layout, utilizing established verification process, error proofing, and operator certification by start of manufacturing validation build
  • Participate and provide input in tooling reviews and buy-offs
  • Supports General Assembly Matching build activities for build events M3 & M4 by working closely with the Quality Lead in executing the matching requirements
  • Manages and tracks completion of the Operation Readiness process for General Assembly
  • Oversees development of UAT plan executes it to completion
  • Participates in PFMEA development and completion

Education & Training

  • Coordinates development of the General Assembly training and workshop plan, and ensures its execution. Provide build direction and training to the production operators
  • Implements lessons learned from previous programs and captures lessons learned during the program execution
  • Ensure active participation during the Process Verification Builds (slow builds)
  • Responsible to schedule focused build workshops in the Operator Support Center

Administration

  • Coordinates daily activity of hourly launch team
  • Establishes roles and responsibilities for the General Assembly hourly Launch Team
  • Exhibit active participation as a member of the Launch Team and attends all Launch Team meetings, including the daily build wrap-up meetings
  • Responsible to forecast and coordinate the necessary plant resources required during the launch (E.G. skilled trades, checkers, and production operators)
  • The role will include relocation benefit for candidate that lives 50 or more miles from location. This role is categorized as onsite.
