Overview
This job contributes to REI's success by:
The Gear Product Developer is responsible for managing, engineering, and developing prototypes from concept through production ready. This includes generating accurate product specifications, owning target/pre-costing, defining construction, and fit with support from pattern engineering (if relevant), and ensuring products meet or exceed REI product expectations. The Product Developer will work collaboratively with their key partners in the development and commercialization of their products to ensure overall performance and value of co-op brands product is successfully communicated to REI manufacturing resources.
Your Planning & Navigating Requirements
  • Create and manage technical specifications to assure documentation is accurate, current and production ready.
  • Drive forward and manage multiple projects from brief stage through design, development, commercialization to production ready.
  • Manage an iterative prototype process and engage with key internal and vendor partners in problem solving to achieve desired results.
  • Evaluate and adjust design concepts and prototypes from a performance, manufacturing, and functional perspective.
  • Review, document and communicate changes, test results and requirements of samples to our factory resources.
  • Apply in-depth knowledge of manufacturing process with the ability to manipulate/ engineer the process to achieve new manufacturing techniques which enhance the overall performance of product.
  • Own target/pre-costing including cost engineering activities and collaborate with costing teams to ensure product is meeting cost objectives.
  • Plan and execute project development according to the seasonal critical dates that lead to on-time delivery of samples and on-time production ready confirmation.
  • Collaborate with product strategy, designers, materials, color, technical services, testing team and overseas partners to ensure successful product execution.
  • Champion product development excellence in working meetings and formal presentations.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
4+ years prior experience in product development/engineering, bachelor's degree in engineering or product development, related degree and relevant industry experience may be considered.
Proven ability to develop and engineer equipment and/or Gear Products.
Advanced knowledge of product development/engineering and manufacturing experience.
Skills to advance development process using innovative techniques.
Computer proficiency - Adobe Illustrator (Suite), PLM, all office tools.
3D CAD (Solidworks, Browzwear) preferred.
Actively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goals.
Pay Range
$72900 - $100000 per year
