Department Overview
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E’s gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary
This is an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1245 represented classification, which has over 100 years of experience representing employees at PG&E. This job is subject to collective bargaining.
The Gas Transmission group ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the gas transmission and storage system. Primary responsibilities include emergency response, natural gas inventory management to meet customer commitments relative to daily temperature and weather conditions, daily supply and demand forecasting, and determination/communication of pipeline and storage capacities.
All employees are responsible for performing their jobs in accordance with PG&E’s vision and values.
Position will require up to approximately 5% of travel time in work schedule.
Role is currently based in San Ramon, but may move to Vacaville headquarters in future.
Candidates must have ability to be scheduled for rotating 10-hour shifts
This is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered position and is subject to random drug and/ or alcohol testing.
PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
The hourly rate for this position ranges from $50.49 to $81.25.
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Qualifications-
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be CFR 49 Operator Qualified by the DOT upon successful completion of training program
• Two years relevant experience
Desired Qualifications:
• Previous gas operations experience preferred

- Possess computer proficiency to navigate through Excel, Word, and other programs utilized in the office environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills (such as would be acquired with a bachelor’s degree)
Responsibilities:
• Engage in system inventory planning and system modeling.
• Monitor the gas transmission system utilizing the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA). Recognize pipeline pressure limitations. Implement planning objectives.
• Issue operating orders to manage system inventories to the Gas Control Center, compressor stations, and storage field personnel who will effect changes in flows and pressures to maintain system objectives. Maintain a detailed log of all conversations related to company facilities.
• Review all scheduled clearances and be attentive to any special system requirements. Monitor activities to completion.
• Respond to emergency conditions on the transmission system. Issue operating orders to Gas System operations, station operations, or field technicians to manage abnormal system conditions. Communicate and form partnerships with all available personnel to minimize customer and facility impact.
• Career level staff supports the senior level by performing the daily operations needed to match the systems to the inventory plan.
