If you’re ready to take the next step in your horticultural career – this position is for you! We are seeking an experienced Garden Center employee to work closely with our store manager to develop, lead, manage, and grow our amazing team.
As the Assistant Store Manager at our Lake OswegoGarden Center, you will have the opportunity to use your experience to lead in all aspects of the store and step into the manager role when they are off. You’ll work in step with the Store Manager to stay laser focused on customer experience while helping to develop our excellent staff. Your daily work will involve you in a wide range of activities, from overseeing inventory management and merchandising, to monitoring the financial performance of the store and assisting in the strategic planning for your location with the rest of the management team.
To thrive in this position, you’ll need a passion for plants and customer service. Your strong knowledge of plants and horticultural care, along with your enthusiastic demeanor and eye for design, will make you the right fit for this key role. This is the ideal position for someone who has prior experience working in a Garden Center and wants to grow into a management role.
Benefits and Pay:
- $42,000 to $50,00 salary per year, dependent upon experience

Work Schedule and Environment
- On-site position at our Lake Oswego location on McVey Ave
- 40+ hours per week, especially during peak season
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Must be available to work on Saturday and Sunday as this is our busiest time!
Requirements and Qualifications
- One year of horticultural experience is required
- One year of experience at a retail Garden Center preferred
- Strong knowledge of outdoor and indoor plants required
- Strong knowledge of horticultural care practices preferred
- Able to quickly learn and use software for retail transactions, ordering, and budgeting
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Responsibilities and Duties
- Help maintain a clean and safe facility
- Work with all Department Leads to create displays
- Ensure customer service standards are met
- Lead the team to ensure the customer experience standards are met
- Step into any role for training and to assist during peak times
- Inventory management including overseeing receiving, selection, quality, and care of merchandise
- Act as lead buyer for one major category
- Develop staff by assisting with hiring, discipline, promotions, terminations, career development, compensation, training, and task management
- Facilitate a safe and positive working environment
- Monitor the financial performance of the store by knowing and understanding the budget, revenue, margins, expenses and net profit, and be able to explain variances in the numbers or performance
- Engage in strategic planning with the Store Manager and Division Manager and bring your ideas and thoughts for change
- Research, plan and execute on approved plans for store growth
Physical Demands
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Able to push and pull up to 200 pounds with castors

Available shifts and compensation: We have available shifts all days of the week. Compensation is $20.19 - $24.04/hour.
