Job Description:
JOB DUTIES: Do you love being outside? Teaching scientific concepts? Sharing nature with others? The Parks Division is seeking one Seasonal Naturalists to join our team at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area. Individuals will assist with planning, coordination, and delivery of education programs for park visitors and field trip groups. Education programs are offered to a range of audiences and may include outdoor skills (fishing, sling shots, etc.), natural history (bird watching, insects, mammals, reptiles, geology, and paleontology), guided hikes, night programs, special events and more. Individuals will interact with and offer interpretive programs for park visitors. Individuals will perform customer service activities, such as answering guest questions. Perform related work as required. Naturalists may assist with programs and events at nearby parks in the Southwest Region as needed. Position hours and schedules dependent on programing, weekend day/s required.
Skills in: educating people of all levels and interests; communicating clearly with people from a variety of backgrounds; entry level outdoor recreation practices.
Ability to: communicate and effectively educate the public; provide excellent customer service and apply proper phone etiquette; understand and follow instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers; recognize safety hazards and take steps to correct the situation; bend, stoop, climb, reach frequently; work outdoors; remain standing and/or walking for long periods of time; ability to drive a vehicle for work purposes.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction or historical setting, retail or customer service setting, or related coursework, training or experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Prefer coursework, training or experience in education, natural sciences and outdoor recreation/skills.
Other: Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
