Position Title:Game Designer II

You will be reporting to the Development Director
As a Game Designer on Creative Tools with Maxis, you will guide the implementation of the tools and content to shape our game world, from the Sims themselves to the environments they live in. This will involve working with cross-discipline groups toward a common defined vision and supporting efforts with design documentation and technical implementation.
Responsibilities
  1. You will develop designs that define the content in the world, including characters and environments, in close partnership with the art and simulation design teams.
  2. You will oversee the design and execution of your features from concept through execution, including technical implementation, tuning, and bug fixing.
  3. You will design tools, create content, and build a world that supports the game systems, narrative, and liveops needs of the game.
  4. You will create designs for both internal and external Creative Tools.
  5. You will write detailed and maintainable design documentation.
  6. You will become knowledgeable in and help improve Maxis' proprietary Game Designer development tools to implement your designs, tune, and bug fix.
  7. You will ensure that environments, objects, and other assets are compatible with simulation gameplay and implement the necessary functionality using proprietary tools.
  8. You will collaborate with all team disciplines, including artists, animators, modelers, engineers, quality assurance, and producers to get support from the team and guide a project from initial design to final production.
  9. You will partner with Experience Design to make complex features into delightful and easy to understand experiences for players.
  10. You will partner with Development Directors to track tasks, identify risk, and clarify changes in design work.

Qualifications
  1. 4-6 years of game design experience.
  2. Experience designing Creative Tools or gameplay and features focused on player customization, creativity, and self-expression.
  3. Experience designing content to support liveops, game systems, and narrative needs.
  4. Expertise in game development tools and engines, especially Unreal.
  5. Implemented designs in past games using scripts, blueprints, or in an editor.
  6. Excellent creative, analytical, with an ability to write detailed design documentation.
  7. Experience designing or creating requirements for internal and external tools.
  8. Design and implementation experience with game features that focus on open-ended player creativity.
  9. Comfortable with multiple stages of development, from pre-production through live service.

Desirable Skills
  1. Experience in Unreal.
  2. Technical Design, scripting, modding, or engineering background.
  3. 3D level design, character design, or game art background.
  4. Worked on a AAA HD title in a content or Creative Tools-focused role.
  5. Familiarity with games that feature Creative Tools, creator economies, and popular modding communities. (e.g. Roblox, Minecraft, The Sims Resource)
  6. Experience with games in The Sims PC franchise or other games with player customization and creativity tools.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The base salary ranges listed below are for the defined geographic market pay zones in these locations. If you reside outside of these locations, a recruiter will advise on the range and benefits for your specific location.

Pay offered will be determined based on numerous relevant business and candidate factors including, for example, education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
BASE SALARY RANGES
•California (depending on location e.g. Los Angeles vs. Sacramento):
º $95,450 - $141,800 USD Annually
•New York (depending on location e.g. Manhattan vs. Buffalo):
º $89,200 - $141,800 USD Annually
•Jersey City, NJ :
º $105,250 - $141,800 USD Annually
•Colorado (depending on location e.g. Denver vs. Colorado Springs):
º $89,200 - $118,550 USD Annually
•Washington (depending on location e.g. Seattle vs. Spokane):
º $89,200 - $130,750 USD Annually
•British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria):
º $77,600 - $119,000 CAN Annually
Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. In the US, we offer a package of benefits including paid time off (3 weeks per year to start), 80 hours per year of sick time, 16 paid company holidays per year, 10 weeks paid time off to bond with baby, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity. For British Columbia, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
