The Graduate Assistant will become integrally involved in all facets of Fitness programming for the department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Assisting with the development and coordination of fitness special events and instructional programs.
-Assisting with the development and implementation of fitness class formats.
-Teaching group fitness classes and personal training as needed.
-Coordinating and implementing surveys and inputting results.
-Planning and evaluating program publicity.
-Mentoring student team members.
-Assisting with participant data collection and statistical analysis.
-Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating instructors and personal trainers.
-Participating in coordinating, programming, and scheduling student team members.
-Assist in conducting and planning monthly team member meetings and development sessions.
-Update and implement instructor training and staff manuals.
-Inventory control of equipment and music.
-Maintaining equipment and assessing equipment needs.
-Assist in teaching the ACE Group Fitness Prep Course and ACE Personal Training Prep Course.
-Collaborate with other Campus Recreation team members and assist with department events as needed.
-Serve as an instructor for American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid classes for Campus Recreation team members.
-Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the department.
Campus Recreation encourages the campus community to embrace fun and well-being through movement, challenge, and play.
The Fitness Program encompasses Group Fitness and Personal Training. The Fitness program provides a comprehensive schedule of group fitness classes, custom class programs and individual, partner and small group personal training for students, faculty/staff, and other members. Participants have an opportunity to experience over 60 different classes weekly taught by student instructors. The energy-packed, diverse Group Fitness program gives participants the opportunity to achieve their fitness goals. Personal Trainers work closely with clients to provide safe and efficient workouts with innovative ways to improve client's health while helping them achieve their fitness goals. Required Qualifications1. Eligible for appointment as per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook which can be found at http://hr.illinoisstate.edu/downloads/GA_Handbook.pdf
2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in the School of Kinesiology and Recreation (KNR), Family and Consumer Sciences, Nutrition, or Public Health.
1. Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Recreation or related field.
2. Applicants with a National Fitness Certification (AFAA, ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM) preferred.
3. Experience in group fitness and personal training is highly recommended.
4. Experience in event and program management recommended.
5. Experience in incentive programs preferred.
6. Possess a current American Red Cross CPR/AED/BBP and First Aid Basic Certification.
7. Possess a current American Red Cross AED/CPR/BBP and First Aid Instructor Certification.
8. Valid Driver's License and/or ability to obtain valid Driver's License.
9. American Red Cross CPR/AED/BBP and First Aid Basic Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
10. American Red Cross CPR/AED/BBP and First Aid Instructor Certification or willingness to obtain certification.

Special Instructions for ApplicantsThis is a 9.5 month Graduate Assistantship, with a contract period August 1, 2024 - May 15, 2025. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter. An extension of this appointment is available, pending satisfactory performance.
