Job Description:

Department Context

Our faculty thrive as part of a diverse community of artists, designers and educators that is centered on learning through making. As a program, the Architecture Department has a tradition of supporting students who work across disciplines and see their pursuit of a career in architecture deeply connected to a foundation in the arts. Faculty support our department's strong sense of community by hosting events, managing our lecture series, and generally being accessible to students for advising and feedback on their work. The department values the practice of respectful critiques and encourages dialogue between students, faculty and guest critics as a way to connect academic ideas to the profession. Our department lecture series reinforces our commitment to connect our academic work to the profession by inviting speakers who model a range of career paths within architecture and related disciplines. Architecture faculty value the craft of teaching as much as the craft of architecture and spend time developing ways in which visual learners advance their creative process, technical skills and knowledge in the field of architecture.

Understanding each discipline at the college in the context of historic and contemporary art and design is a hallmark of MassArt's learning goals. In architecture this includes precedents from a broad range of artists, designers and texts. We seek candidates for this position with a passion for teaching and supporting a diverse student community, and who are willing to contribute across educational opportunities throughout the program. MassArt has a robust Vision that outlines our collective mission, values and strategic plan with horizons identifying 5- and 10-year goals. This includes a set of University-wide Learning Goals; https://massart.edu/university-wide-learning-goals

The Architecture program at MassArt has offered a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Architecture for over forty years, while our NAAB-accredited Master of Architecture degree program has been in place for over ten years. The architecture department is seeking a candidate who values a collaborative working environment and who will contribute to the ongoing evolution of our program. https://massart.edu/degree-programs/master-architecture

Teaching Architecture at MassArt occurs within the context of a public higher education where every department is uniquely geared toward art, design, and/or art education. Our program seeks to support faculty in their development as well as students engaged at both levels of education, BFA and M.ARCH.
