Job description

Overview:
The biology department at Salem State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in microbiology to begin in September 2024. Teaching assignments will vary based upon the expertise of the candidate and programmatic needs but may include: microbiology; introductory biology and non-major's courses; a sophomore-level anatomy and physiology course; and/or major elective courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
The biology department educates future scientists in general biology with the options to focus on Biotechnology, Biomedical Sciences, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Marine and Aquaculture, and Environmental Biology. In addition, the department provides general education for scientific reasoning as well as basic anatomy and physiology, microbiology, neuroanatomy for the nursing, athletic training, and occupational therapy departments.

Duties:
Candidates are required to perform duties in accordance with the MSCA contract . Duties include teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. The position is subject to available funding.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Two to three years of experience teaching at the college/university level
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring undergraduates
  • Experience teaching traditional lectures, lab settings, and online modalities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with a diverse student body
  • Experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology
  • Experience teaching both introductory and upper-level courses
  • A desire to involve undergraduates in scholarship both inside and outside the classroom
