The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888. A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided.

Representative Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues Create a learning environment that fosters student success, using different teaching modalities, including Distance Education. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with diverse faculty, staff, and student populations. Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.

Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects. Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person and perform related duties as assigned. As necessary, serve on Academic Senate and participatory governance committees to support and enrich instructional programs.

Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies. Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required. Participate in assessment, program review, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes.

Stay current with evolving processes, tools, and equipment related to astronomy and physics. Serve as liaison with the local/regional business and industry community. Serve as a resource for economic development and workforce development initiatives within our community Knowledge and willingness to participate in planetarium operations Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, Curriculum Development.

Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's in physics, astronomy or astrophysics OR Bachelor's in physics or astronomy AND Master's in engineering, mathematics, meteorology or geophysics OR the equivalent. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience collaborating with BIPOC students and DEIAA efforts Professional experience in any engineering field Experience teaching in higher education Knowledge of Open Educational Resources (OER) Planetarium software and operations experience Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

Knowledge and Abilities KNOWLEDGE OF: Course and curriculum development. Syllabus creation. Learning management systems Planetarium software and operations Effective assessment strategies to measure student learning outcomes and course effectiveness.

Research and Scholarship: Interest and ability to engage in research or scholarly activities related to astronomy and physics education.
