Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides quality Customer Service efficiently to residents, families, co-workers, and vendors in a manner to ensure satisfaction
- Prepares all Skilled Nursing Facility private pay, insurance, secondary insurance and Medicare, Medicaid and HMO billing and completes related accounting functions
- Responsible for all accounting related to documenting, preparing, and distributing resident statements
- Accurately maintains a monthly census
- Responsible for aging and/or past-due account collections and analysis with input/assistance from Business Office Supervisor
- Make recommendations to the Business Office Supervisor, and/or Administrator regarding charge-offs
- Responsible for timely follow up on Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, and secondary insurance claims
- Participates in Triple-Check meetings, in coordination with nursing and therapy teams
- Verifies insurance for admissions
- Provides reports to the Administrator as requested
- Compiles information needed for fiscal year end audit
- Works with Business Office Supervisor to reconcile problem accounts
- Participates in internal and external financial audits
- May be responsible for preparation and input of daily cash/checks deposits
- May be responsible for community petty cash including reconciliation and distribution of funds to staff and residents
- Maintains resident financial, face sheets, and insurance information
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Reports safety hazards and/or accidents to supervisor
- Each Billing Clerk is responsible for their defined residents with the understanding that they are also responsible for providing coverage in the absence of the other biller
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in Accounts Receivable or Billing is beneficial but not a requirement; previous Long Term Health Care experience is desirable
- General knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid laws and regulations
- Proficiency with computers and various computer programs such as Word and Excel required
- Knowledgeable of skilled nursing home regulations, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care
- Proficient in various excel, word, adobe, and other electronic reporting formats
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to read, follow oral directions and write legibly
- Must be honest, trustworthy and possess tolerance for all individuals
- Must be able to communicate with other departments
- Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, family, and staff
- Must have good physical and mental health. You will fill out an employee health history
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Must be able to work with little or no supervision
- Able to work with employees, residents, families, physicians, therapists, consultants, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the public
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks with interruptions
- Must have a pleasant personality and good telephone skills
