Description: AIRPORT EMERGENCY DISPATCHERFULL TIME/HOURLY
JOB SUMMARY

The Airport Emergency Dispatcher at Tulsa International Airport is responsible for ensuring effective communication throughout the airport by receiving calls for emergency services and dispatching personnel and equipment according to established procedures. This position serves as an integral part of the Airport’s Operations team, playing a key role in the Airport’s ability to maintain security and respond to emergencies. Must be able to work shifts in a 24/7 work environment. Starting pay for this non-exempt position is $20.70/hour.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives incoming requests, via telephone and radio for emergency assistance personnel
  • Dispatches personnel and equipment by radio
  • Monitors and operates multiple computer system at the Airport’s centralized communications center
  • Monitors security access video cameras and fire alarm system for airport
  • Monitors base radios and frequencies
  • Utilizes various software programs, databases, and electronic equipment specific to the Airport to obtain needed information and to monitor various activities
  • Operates tape recordings, flight information computer, and office equipment
  • Maintains and searches records and relays information to personnel in the field
  • Composes and edits general correspondence
  • Maintains log of daily operations
  • Assists employees and the public with questions about the location and functions of the Tulsa International Airport and reliever airports
  • Performs record and warrant checks on computer and uses OLETS to request information from law enforcement agencies
  • Reports equipment malfunction problems to proper authorities
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience: Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development Certificate (GED), and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an Emergency Dispatcher.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Knowledge of emergency and/or ARFF dispatch and operations; knowledge of the operation of radio, teletype, and telephone equipment; demonstrated proficiency with various computer systems; strong administrative skills, with ability to quickly and accurately enter data and operate telephone and/or radio systems; ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations using proper procedures and exercising independent decision making; ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, other members of the organization, and the public in giving and receiving information; knowledge of the location and functions of Tulsa International Airport and reliever airports; knowledge of local, State, and Federal emergency and/or airport regulations.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements include arm and hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to use communications and office equipment; subject to sitting, standing, twisting, and walking; and vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential tasks.

Licenses and Certifications: Certification by the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) is required. Membership in the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) is preferred. Must possess a valid Oklahoma Class “D” Operator’s License. Must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility to hold a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

Working Environment: Working environment is primarily indoors, using two-way radio, telephone, mainframe terminal, personal computers, and office machines; and may be required to work overtime.

Note:

This classification is a “safety sensitive” position as defined by the United States Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations, the Oklahoma Standards for Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing and Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Laws. As a “safety sensitive” classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana license will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana.
