Full Stack Software Developer
LifeLabs Learning is seeking its first full-time Software Developer to help us build cutting-edge learning and development software that empowers individuals and organizations to learn life's most useful skills.
As our Software Developer, you will work closely with our Product team to build scalable, reliable, and performant software applications that meet the needs of our clients.
We are looking for a full-stack developer who is passionate about using technology to make a positive impact on people's lives and who is committed to continuous learning and improvement. If you have a strong background in modern web development frameworks, programming languages, and cloud infrastructure, as well as experience with building accessible and inclusive software that follows WCAG standards, then we encourage you to apply!
Accountabilities:
  • Drive the selection of our software technology stack in partnership with the Director of Product Design, Development, & Delivery.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality software solutions using modern programming languages and frameworks, such as JavaScript, Python, and React/Next.js, that meet or exceed client expectations for functionality, user experience, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and build scalable architectural and workflow solutions delivered on time and within budget.
  • Write clear and reusable code that adheres to best practices, resulting in a low rate of bugs and high maintainability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug complex software issues in a timely manner, minimizing downtime for end-users.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, and proactively propose improvements to our existing systems that result in increased efficiency, scalability, and/or user satisfaction.
  • Participate in the full software development life cycle, from working with product designers and managers in research, concept, and testing phases to owning implementation and deployment.

Success Metrics:
  • Develop and maintain software solutions that have a bug rate of less than 5% and high maintainability, resulting in fewer than 5 software downtime incidents per quarter.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure that all software development projects are completed on time and within budget, with no more than 2 missed deadlines or budget overruns per year.
  • Ensure that all software developed adheres to software development principles and best practices, including version control, testing, QA, and debugging, resulting in WCAG compliant software products.

Requirements:
  • At least 4 years of professional software development experience in building scalable, performant, and reliable software applications.
  • In-depth understanding of databases, data modeling, and SQL.
  • Understanding of security best practices, including authentication, authorization, and encryption.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, etc.
  • Experience with React and frameworks such as NextJS and React Native.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and services, such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Thorough understanding of software development principles and best practices, including version control, testing, QA and debugging. In other words, help ensure we're "building the right thing" and "building the thing right".
  • Experience building and integrating APIs and RESTful services. (Bonus points for having worked with the Hubspot and Google Calendar APIs).
  • Knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and their standards such as SCORM and xAPI.
  • Familiarity with data analytics tools and platforms such as PowerBI, Looker or Mixpanel.
  • Experience building software that follows WCAG standards and conducting accessibility testing using tools such as axe and pa11y.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in the software development industry, especially as it relates to supporting adult learning.

Preferred but not required:
  • Experience with building with Webflow and using its APIs. (Currently, Webflow as our front end)
  • Experience developing educational software for adult learners.
  • Experience working with mission-driven startups and/or high-growth companies.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and natural language processing.
  • Familiar with the Jobs-to-be-Done framework and Shape Up techniques.
  • Formal credentialing (e.g. degree and/or completion of formal skills-based training) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.

The deets:
  • Start date: ASAP
  • Location: Remote (can be based anywhere in the U.S., except Alaska)
  • Employment Type: Full-time
  • Starting Salary: $140K -$150K starting base salary
    • Starting salary matches your skills and readiness for the role assessed during the interview process.
  • Compensation: salary + bonus (Success Share)
    • Our compensation system is transparent and consistently applied throughout the company. As you take on new responsibilities, you can expect a yearly compensation increase, so long as you are meeting the role expectations #AlwaysBeLearning! This translates into a predictable raise up to $150K base salary, after which your base salary will increase based on an annual merit increase.
    • Additionally, you will be eligible to participate in our quarterly Success Share program which is a 10% bonus on your eligible earnings when we hit our quarterly revenue target.
      • Year 1: 10% of 140K Year 2: 10% of 150K Year 3: 10% of 150K + 2% merit increase
