Responsibilities and Duties
- WHO/WHAT: Are you fluent in Wizardspeak? Do you have a bounty of patience and special skills to care for a sweet child with autism? Harry Potter speaks with snakes in a language called Parseltongue, and you’ll use a variety of ways to communicate with this young man. In preschool most of the day, the three-year-old is non-verbal but attends therapy where he’s using a speech-generating device. Mom and Dad are both busy physicians (are there any other kind?!) and there’s a baby sister coming in June! Typically, you’ll work Tuesday to Friday, always ending at 5:30 or 6 pm. Your start times will vary including 10 am on Tuesday, 2 pm on Wednesday, and 7 am on Thursday and Friday. After the baby arrives—and especially once Mom’s maternity leave ends—you’ll hold, comfort, feed, burp, change, and guide her naps. While the little lady catches her zzzzs, you’ll help with the children’s laundry, wash bottles, restock the nursery supplies, vacuum, sweep, light dinner prep, and general light tidying up. There are two very gentle Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, but there’s a dog walker, so you can expect minimal pet care duties. There are no allergies, it’s preferred but not required that you know how to swim, and you will drive daily using your own vehicle. And that brings us to the primary part of your role which is caring for this sweet, affectionate, and energetic little boy! You’ll chauffer him to and from school (daily, 8:30 am - 2:50 pm), accompany him to therapy, and be a stable, supportive ally he can trust. Even though he communicates differently, the young gentleman is very expressive and sensory-seeking. That means you’ll have to keep up with his constant desire for movement, running, jumping, and playing outside together. Indoors, you’ll use your wildest imagination to contort Playdough and kinesthetic sand into characters in a story. Due to the sensitive nature of this role, someone who’s stable and intends to stick around for a few years is key. Muggles need not apply (unless you have a niffler, in which case, we’ll forgive you). Everyone else, including amazing nannies APPLY right now!
The Ideal Nanny Is...LOVING! Patient, personable, and compassionate, you welcome the challenges that come with caring for a child with special needs. (HUGE bonus points if you have past experience, knowledge, or both!) Organized and proactive, you prefer a schedule but appreciate that sometimes you have to improvise and roll with the punches. You’re also reliable, punctual, helpful, and detail-oriented, never shying away from tackling household tasks with excellence. (More bonus points if you’re also a newborn care specialist!) So if this sounds like you, then bring your energetic self this way and APPLY today because we’re hoping to find you fast!
