  • SERVICE PHILOSOPHY

Pueblo Diversified Industries ("PDI") is a mission-driven Colorado Nonprofit Corporation whose many customers and stakeholders include individuals with a disability receiving services ("individuals served"), commercial, business, and government entities. SUMMARY
The Fort Carson Lead Custodian ("Lead") supports work performed under the authority of the Fort Carson custodial contract ("contract") by performing custodial services, providing transportation, oversight, and ensuring that adequate cleaning materials, supplies and equipment are available. The Lead works alongside co-workers, including individuals served.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight
  • Lead assigned coworkers in performing required duties
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and as per instructions from the Fort Carson Project Manager and FortCarson Assistant Project Manager
  • Provide on-site instruction in cleaning techniques
  • Ensure that materials, supplies and equipment are present and available in proper locations and proper times as directed
  • Ensure that co-workers, including individuals served, complete work as required and within expected timeframes
  • Review and follow all Safety Data Sheets ("SDS") and communicate warnings and hazards as necessary
  • Complete initial quality control inspection and redirect co-workers as necessary to ensure quality standards are met

Transportation
  • Drive PDI vehicles as required to transport self, co-workers, materials, supplies and equipment to a specific location
  • Closely follow all PDI and customer-specific driving rules, policies and regulations

Safety
  • Follow procedures and direct others in the safe use of chemical cleaners and power equipment
  • Follow safety procedures to check electrical appliances and equipment before use
  • Notify the supervisor with recommendations about equipment repair and replacement
  • Monitor the activities of co-workers, including individuals served, to ensure that all safety rules and policies are consistently followed

Custodial
  • Mix and prepare cleaning solutions according to manufacturer specifications and PDI safety guidelines
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floor
  • Cleans rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture
  • Dust furniture and equipment
  • Polishes metalwork
  • Washes walls, ceiling and woodwork
  • Washes windows, door panels and sills
  • Empties wastebaskets
  • Transports trash and waste to disposal area
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs and vacuums hallways and office space
  • Transports small equipment or tools between departments
  • Sets up tables and chairs in the lunchroom, work centers and other areas as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The Lead has no supervisory responsibilities but does provide direction to co-workers, including individuals served.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A high school degree or its equivalent is required. One year of custodial experience is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred. Experience working with individuals with a disability preferred. One year of experience in a supervisory or lead position is required.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
  • Age 21. A valid driver's license, pre-employment background screen, pre-employment drug screen and authorized driver approval by PDI's automobile insurance carrier are required. Successful completion of First Aid and other required certifications.
  • Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with individuals served, staff and support agencies. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the PDI environment. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

MATHEMATICS ABILITY
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

COMPUTER SKILLS
  • To perform this job successfully, a person should know the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel and Outlook, Internet software, cellular telephones and basic office equipment.

REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The Lead will work at PDI's customer facility at Fort Carson, Colorado. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Lead is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather). The Lead is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can become loud and hectic.
  • POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
  • This is a non-exempt, full-time position. Hours worked Monday through Friday may vary based on work requirements. Routine evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required to meet contract specifications and PDI needs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with arms. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell.

TRAVEL
  • Occasional travel within a 50-mile radius of the contract work site may be required.
