Job Description:
The FRP Gelcoat Technician plays a crucial role in the structural and cosmetic repair of fiberglass and gelcoat, ensuring adherence to industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in performing gel coat and paint cosmetic repairs, color matching gel coat, and following manufacturer"s warranty procedures and guidelines. Additionally, the technician will maintain finishes to industry standards, demonstrate knowledge of FRP repairs and painting procedures, and complete repair work within established timeframes. Safety, environmental consciousness, and maintaining a clean work area are integral aspects of this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
**Perform gel coat/paint cosmetic repairs
**Ability to color match gel coat
**Follow manufacturer"s warranty procedures and guidelines for all repairs
**Maintain finishes to industry standards
**Demonstrate knowledge of FRP repairs and painting procedures
**Complete repair work utilizing service scheduler and SSO"s within established timeframes
**Follow all procedures pertaining to safety and personal protective equipment
**Maintain a clean and environmentally safe work area
**Ensure the quality of all work performed
**Maintain inventory and materials
**Perform other duties as assigned by Manager
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities:
**Adhere to SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training
**Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area
**Report all accidents, injuries, spills, and near misses immediately
Technical and Physical Requirements:
**2-5 years" experience required
**Previous experience with gel coat and fiberglass on large yachts required
**Awlgrip training a plus
**Ability to ascend and descend a ladder
**Ability to work in confined spaces
**Ability to lift 50 pounds
**Basic boat handling skills preferred
