The Fresh Seafood Commodity Manager is responsible for managing the Buyers for the assigned area. Responsible for the replenishment function for assigned Stock Yards locations including maintaining continuity of supply while meeting inventory days on hand goals. The Commodity Manager monitors quality of inbound product and executes replenishment functions according with US Foods policies and procedures. This position monitors and exceeds replenishment KPI’s. The Commodity Manager is a subject matter expert on replenishment policies and procedures and is responsible for managing the collaborative buying efforts between all Stock Yards in the defined Area.

New Ways of Work: This position has been segmented as hybrid meaning the work is a combination of Onsite and Remote as defined by the role segmentation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage Commodity Buyers

  • Purchase Core local turn items

  • Collaborate with local leadership on needs and opportunities

  • Conduct weekly reviews of usage to identify optimal raw materials

  • Gather and share commodity intel and provide pricing guidance

  • Daily management of replenishment duties and KPI results for assigned Stock Yards locations.

  • Area leader of the replenishment process working with the Sr Manager of Sourcing and Procurement to execute sales growth initiatives and the stocking of new items for sales opportunities

  • Communicates with local leadership regarding initiatives that influence demand changes.

  • Monitors inbound product quality and specifications and investigates related concerns raised by production members or customers

  • Manages the communication of replenishment information to pertinent local staff members and leadership.

  • Manages follow up related to inventory concerns, product spoilage and product maintenance information.

  • Collaborates with responsible personnel to expedite deliveries, reconcile costing concerns, validate unusual demand, and manage inventory activities.

  • Manages inventory level to ensure adequate supply while meeting or exceeding key service level performance indicators, including the following: Inventory Loss Minimization, Days Inventory on Hand (DIOH), Customer Order Fill Rates, Excess and Obsolete Inventory Reserve, Inbound Cases/Pallet, Special Order Response Time, and Other duties as assigned by manager.

SUPERVISION:

• Commodity Buyers (2) for assigned area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5 year of purchasing experience in proteins required. Including:

  • Two years effective people management experience required.

  • Fresh seafood purchasing experience of at least 2 years.

  • Understanding of the Fresh Seafood industry to include yields, species, COO and sales support.

• Basic Computer knowledge is required

• MS Office

• Demonstrates ability to lead, manage, and train others. Ability to handle multiple tasks at once; ability to function autonomously with very little direction or input. Must be able to achieve performance objectives.

• Possess a high degree of diplomacy, tact, tenacity and persistence to deal effectively with other stakeholders. Must be organized and have strong communication and follow up skills.

Travel:

• Overnight travel may be required to participate in trainings, meetings, or other company

Education

•Four-year college degree in business, operations, or supply chain management, or equivalent 7 years food service industry work experience required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Good negotiation skill set.

• Good analytical skills to help manage the business.

• Center of the Plate knowledge.
