Job Description
We are seeking a Freelance Copy Editor/Proofreader who understands our brand identity as well as our brand voice and can help us reflect accuracy and consistency in all our varied content, including but not limited to appliance user guides, recipe books, website content, product listings, emails, social media, and more.
This is a remote-based, freelance position with flexible hours, offering the potential to evolve into a full-time role based on business needs.
Role & Responsibilities
Your primary function will be to interact and collaborate closely with the Culinary and Marketing Teams to perform and manage the following vital functions:
- Read, review, and copyedit content at every stage of production for accuracy as well as consistency of brand voice.
- Confirm claims with project managers and ensure that requests for changes get implemented.
- Edit copy to improve clarity and ensure content accessibility for the target audience.
- Check for and correct errors in grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation.
- Check for consistency in spelling, capitalization, numerals, hyphenation, and more.
- Verify terms, sources, model numbers, and URLs.
- Work with Creative Team to ensure accuracy of illustrated instructions as needed
Required Skills & Experience
- Prior copyediting/proofreading experience, preferably in a technical environment.
- Expertise with standard editorial concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Superior organization and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.
- Team player yet self-directed and proactive.
- Comfortable working with internal style guides but able to create project-specific stylesheets as needed.
- Ability to work on tight schedules, meet deadlines, and respond quickly to changing priorities.
- Capable of managing multiple projects.
- Familiarity with cooking and a love of food a plus.
