What is the role?

The Fraud Analyst prevents and detects suspicious and fraudulent activities on credit union accounts. This role is responsible for Identifying fraud trends and developing continuous improvements, as well as analyzing and reporting trends to management.


What will be expected of me?

  • Handles incoming calls and requests for fraud related & fraud prevention activity.
  • Identifies suspicious activity and works with appropriate teams to investigate and thwart the activity.
  • Completes investigation tasks for assigned cases.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Helps identify processes and procedures that need to be developed to prevent or minimize fraud losses.
  • Makes recommendations on how processes can be improved and policies modified.
  • Works with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Department to investigate suspicious alerts from internal departments and Anti-Money Laundering (ALM) software, performing proper follow-up and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What will I bring?

Experience and education:
  • Minimum 1 year experience of fraud related activities in a Financial Institution
  • Knowledge of Verafin preferred
  • Knowledge of Symitar preferred
  • Knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act regulations with an emphasis on suspicious activity reports is preferred
  • Certified Fraud Examiner Certification preferred
Skills and abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Learns quickly and demonstrates that learning
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must maintain confidentiality
  • Can be accountable for the completion of assigned tasks and projects with supervision
  • Uses judgement with supervision
  • Understands the basic business line and operating environment
  • Able to handle problems that are not particularly difficult nor complex
What is the work environment like, and are there physical requirements for this role?
  • Office environment
  • Works primarily at desk
  • Will require some local travel for fraud training and interaction with local law enforcement
Salary: the starting range for this position is $20.10 - $25.13 per hour. In addition to the starting range, this role is also eligible for Westerra’s self-funding reward plan. This plan pays out a cash incentive annually if the company hits specific criteria tied to our financial goals and you will have a direct impact on the outcome of those results!
