PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To work as a team to maintain and grow the Foster program. Process foster applications. Ensure foster homes are incompliance with requirements relating to resident pet vaccinations and licensing. Work side-by-side with Kennel Operations Manager to coordinate animals entering and returning from foster. Coordinate animals coming in from foster for medical protocols, regiments, and procedures. To provide exceptional customer service to customers and adoption counseling to customers. To support the mission of CRHS.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with fellow Foster Coordinator to ensure clear and consistent communication regarding all areas of the foster program including but not limited to: foster animals’ needs/current status, foster family correspondences, upcoming appointments, and onboarding new fosters.
  • With direction from the Kennel Operations Manager facilitate getting animals needing foster into homes.
  • Spend time interacting with and getting to know the animals needing foster so as to ensure the animal is going into a foster home with an appropriate level of expertise that will meet their needs.
  • With direction from the Kennel Operations Manager determine which animals in foster are ready to be made available for adoption and communicate with fosters to obtain biography information and photos.
  • Consult with the Kennel Operations Manager and/or Leads regarding behavior concerns and or socialization progress.
  • Consult with the Kennel Operations Manager to determine treatment plans for animals in foster.
  • Complete weekly check-ins with foster parents and their animals regarding how they are doing, socialization progress, health progress, medical regiments, and any other needs.
  • Maintain record of those check-ins so that both Foster Coordinators are aware of where things stand.
  • Provide guidance to fosters regarding proper care (including but not limited to diet), treatment, and socialization.
  • Assist with posting fosters available for adoption including but not limited to: taking photos of animals, adding animal photos, and information to Petfinder.
  • Ensure standard deworming, preventative, and vaccination protocols as well as medical regiments and procedures for animals in foster are administered/completed in a timely fashion (In most cases this should be no more three days past when it was due).
  • Ensure animals have received all necessary medical requirements prior to being placed in foster including but not limited to: rabies vaccination (all cats/dogs 3 months or older), FIV/FeLV test (if applicable), Heartworm test (if applicable), microchip (if applicable) and all standard medical protocols (dewormers, boosters, etc) are current.
  • Prepare items to be sent with fosters such as crates, food, dishes, medications, boosters, preventatives, etc. prior to their arrival so they are ready when the fosters arrive.
  • Prepare kennels for animals coming back from foster prior to their arrival and label who the kennel is set up for.
  • Maintain medical records for animals that are in foster care and ensure that protocols, procedures, and regiments are updated in Animal Shelter Manager (ASM) the day they occur.
  • Ensure movements in and out of foster are done the day the animal entered or left foster. If neither Foster Coordinator is working the day of the movement, ensure the movement is done the following work day.
  • Utilize the Google calendar to schedule foster-related appointments and include in the description: the foster’s name, the animal’s name, what they are coming in for (make sure to list everything), any supplies/medication that need to be sent with, and any other pertinent information.
  • If an animal being sent into foster has an existing medical procedure scheduled set up a drop-off appointment with the foster prior to them leaving.
  • Responsible for completing foster-related appointments including but not limited to: pick-ups, Foster2Adopt pick-ups, drop-offs, resupplies, vaccinations, reweighs, deworming, and other routine care.
  • Coordinate with Animal Care for medical-related, drop-offs, and pick-up appointments in the absence of both Foster Coordinators.
  • Coordinate with Customer Relations regarding supply pick-up in the absence of both Foster Coordinators.
  • Respond to emails and voicemail every work day.
  • Responsible for foster recruitment.
  • Responsible for processing foster applications including but not limited to, virtual home checks, orientations, and background checks via CCAP and Animal Shelter Manager.
  • Maintain vet records of foster-owned animals to ensure resident animals remain up to date on rabies and distemper vaccinations and licensing (if applicable).
  • Manage the Foster Parent Facebook page, ensuring all new fosters are invited to the page, and no longer active fosters are removed.
  • Maintain a clean and presentable workspace including but not limited to: sweeping, mopping, sanitizing, organizing and disposing of trash.
  • Review, maintain and update foster manuals for all species sent into foster care on a yearly basis or as changes arise.
  • Review, maintain and update foster program requirements and procedures on a yearly basis or as changes arise.
  • Responsible for assisting all fosters with after-hours emergencies as needed.
  • Any other non-essential functions of the job as assigned, such as:
  • Provide adoption counseling and guidance to adopters of foster animals.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Appropriate technical degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Able to represent CRHS in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Ability to handle challenging customers while maintaining a positive, courteous, and helpful demeanor.
  • Computer literate.
  • Able to work without supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral, written and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Able to work one to two weekends a month.
  • Able to work the occasional evening as needed.
  • Passion for issues relating to animal welfare.
  • Must comply with CRHS employee-owned animal policies.
