Job Summary:

 

The job will consist of new construction or restoration work on docks, seawalls, retaining walls, boat lifts, decks, set piling, boardwalks, and dune walkovers for heavy civil , marine, and shoreline projects. This job may also consist of building steps, handrails, walkways, or any other temporary structure required to ensure jobsite safety.

 

This is a temporary position in Tampa, Florida with the opportunity to shift onto other projects, extend the assignment and potentially become a an employee of Ballard, for those who perform great work!  

 

We are looking for several positions, starting now and also in the late-August timeframe and will have both day and night shift opportunities.

Education & Certifications:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License with current driving record free from serious or frequent violations

 

Experience:

 

  • 3+ years’ experience as a marine construction worker familiar will formwork, placing concrete, and pile driving operations
  • Experience with the installation of sheet piles, prestressed concrete piles, tubular steel piles, and H-Piles is a plus
  • Experience with the construction of bridges, walkways, piers, boat ramps, seawalls, docks, wharfs, and jetties
  • Experience working with all types of woodworking equipment

 

Skills:

  • Great interpersonal and communications skills to effectively lead a crew and interact with customers
  • Ability to cut and weld steel is a plus
  • Must be a highly reliable individual with good communication and organizational skills and be able to work unsupervised
  • Committed to contributing to a culture of safety, looking out for yourself and others

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Conduct marine construction tasks under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Shape, cut, drill, handle, and erect heavily treated timber caps, clamps, stringers, decking, etc.
  • Install various concrete form ties and accessories. Assist with reinforcement, grading, and other related concrete placement and removal tasks.
  • Safely operate power saws, grinders, roto hammers, power drills, Hilti guns, burning torches, impact wrenches, table saws, chains, and cable jacks.
  • Perform layout accurately, using a rule, framing square, plumb bob, and level.
  • Rig property to move from one place/position to another.
  • Signal and safely place heavy loads with crane assistance or other specialized lifting devices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

 

  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
  • Moves heavy objects (75 lbs. or more) short distances (20’ of less)
  • Moves light objects (less than 75 lbs.) long distances (more than 20’)
  • Works in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements
  • Lifts arms above shoulder level (i.e., lifts items into a truck or overhead area)
  • Climb ladders or steps to reach objects
  • Works at heights of up to 50’ or more
  • Works in confined or enclosed spaces
  • Sits or stands for long periods of time
  • Wear a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, safety-toed boots, and other applicable PPE
  • Walks moderated distances to reach the work area (1/2 mile or more)
  • Sits in the operator’s seat of equipment and reaches all pedals, switches, levers, buttons, etc., required to safely operate the equipment
  • Sits in the operator’s seat of equipment and has an adequate field of vision of all instruments, gauges, and warning lights, as well as an acceptable field of vision out of the windows/mirrors
  • Adequate hearing, enough to receive and understand instructions, be alerted by horns, sirens, shouting, or any other noise that is meant to convey a safety warning
