Position Summary:
The Forestry Technician assists with all aspects of forest land management on the FSC certified 111-thousand-acre Collins Lakeview Forest and on partnership land and projects in the region. This is a temporary, non-benefited position earning approximately 24 hours per week and not to expected to exceed six months.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
- Perform boundary line maintenance to assist in project preparation on Oregon and California timberlands.
- Delineate treatment areas and protect sensitive resources by performing project layouts.
- Plant trees and monitor the plantation.
- Collect GPS data to track project outcomes.
- Keep detailed records of all tasks.
- Work independently in remote locations with little supervision.
- Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
- On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as an effective member of the team.
- Basic understanding of maps preferred.
- Ability to identify forest plants preferred.
- Ability to keep detailed records and maps.
- Must be able to perform rigorous, field-based work in all weather conditions, on steep, brush-filled terrain.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Report.
Education and Experience:
- In progress of pursuing a degree in forestry or natural resources preferred.
- Prior experience in forestry or field work preferred.
Environmental Conditions:
May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, pesticides, biting and stinging insects, and extreme temperature and weather conditions.
Required Personal Protective Equipment:
Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, a face shield and/or a respirator.
