Introduction

The Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center is currently seeking a Food Services Specialist who has strong communication skills, and who is ready to utilize their strengths in organization, attention to detail and management. Additionally this position has direct contact with inmates.
Preferences:
Some knowledge of principals and practices of a correctional facility. Ability to perform a considerable volume of detailed record related work. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
General Definition of Work:
Performs responsible supervisory duties involving the security, safety, and smooth facilitation of kitchen operations.
Work is performed under the direction of the Food Services Manager and is reviewed for results and compliance with established rules, regulation and standard operation procedures. Supervision is exercised over inmate workers.
Typical Tasks:
Supervises and directs inmate workers in routine kitchen duties
Supervises preparation of meals
Conducts on-the-job-training for inmate workers assigned to the kitchen
Ensures tasks are being performed correctly by inmate workers
Ensures compliance with rules and regulations governing the conduct of inmate workers while in the kitchen
Ensures that both main jail and modular kitchens comply with state regulations and adhere to nutritional, sanitary, safety, security, health and religious standards and procedures
Ensures all food service areas and equipment are clean and sanitized
Ensures meals are properly distributed
Ensures special diets are followed and documented
Preparing and maintaining records of inventory, food and supplies
Maintains control of all culinary equipment
Immediately reports all kitchen discrepancies
Using a computer and related software applications
Communication; interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, general public and inmate workers
Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Training and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED and 2 years of related experience.
Special Requirements:
Virginia State identified Food Protection Manager Certification. Must pass a criminal history background investigation to include fingerprint and driving record check. Must pass a polygraph exam. Pass pre-employment physical. Must have a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
Physical Demands/Frequency Positions in this class typically require: crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, and threatening environments.
Environmental Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an inherently stressful environment and involves risk to personal safety with possible exposure to blood borne and airborne pathogens.

SALARY:
Starting hourly rate $24.82 an hour.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:(4) 10 hour days-weekly (full-time)
