Job Summary
The Food Service Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the food service establishment. They oversee all tasks related to the preparation of Food Services and delegate essential tasks to supervisory staff. Responsible for managing food-related inventory and overall kitchen operations, equipment, and supplies. This person will ensure USDA guidelines on nutrition and ORR policies are followed. Oversee food preparation, portion sizes, and the overall presentation of food, and ensure culturally appropriate food menus are followed.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee the preparation, presentation, and delivery of food to guarantee that children receive meals that are proportionate, consistent, and cooked properly.
- Create meal plans in compliance with USDA guidelines for the population served.
- Develop a cyclic menu, develop standardized recipes, and oversee a weekly food plan for the residential facility.
- Manage food service team and verify that employees are in compliance with federally regulated policies regarding food handling and safety.
- Ensure high quality of food served.
- Keep track of all food allergies / intolerances to provide accurate meal options.
- Develop standard procedures for accurate meal production and distribution.
- Inspect kitchen areas, supplies, equipment, workstations, and dining areas to verify that all are clean, safe and in working order.
- Manage the inventory and order food and beverages, equipment, and supplies.
- Train and oversee kitchen personnel.
- Manage schedules and find viable ways to communicate any changes.
- Interact with multiple vendors and suppliers that provide products to our food service operation.
- Create employee schedules and find viable solutions when an employee is unable to make a shift.
- Determine areas where things can improve and come up with innovative solutions to problems.
- Order Food Services supplies, maintain a reasonable inventory and monitor finances to determine compliance with assigned budgets.
- Provide training on Food Services policies and procedures as required.
Other Functions:
- Develop corrective action plans or disciplinary memos to address performance or conduct issues in collaboration with Program Management team and HR Team as needed.
- Address employee performance issues in a timely manner and maintaining documentation of conversations through the use of memos to the record/conference notes.
- Provide adaptive leadership through supportive coaching and mentoring to staff to inspire and encourage our workforce and promote integrity.
- Provide training to kitchen staff regarding responsibilities within the Children First Residential Care Program, including agency, state and federal policy updates and changes.
- Provide effective communication across departments to ensure consistency of expectations, as well as work effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Involved in interviewing and orienting new employees for the department.
- Other task and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualification requirements
- Level: Associate Degree in Culinary Arts
- 2 years of previous experience in a supervisory position.
- 3 years of previous experience with food handling.
- 2 years previous experience as manager in a fast-paced restaurant; school cafeteria experience preferred.
- State Food handling certification
- Food Manager Certificate under the Health Department
Other Specialized Training and skills:
- Hands-on experience with planning menus and ordering ingredients
- Knowledge of a wide range of recipes
- Familiarity with kitchen sanitation and safety regulations
Necessary:
- Ability to read, write and converse proficiently in Spanish and translate written Spanish into English is (Required)
- Ability to handle kitchen tools and equipment.
- Strong management, organizational and leadership skills. Team building skills.
- Strong writing, organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, SharePoint, OneDrive) with the ability to learn new software.
- The ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated detailed instructions orally and in writing.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, including the ability to resolve issues quickly.
Working conditions/Physical Effort
Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Evening and weekend work are requirements of the position as necessary. Regular computer work is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and must be able to work on a ladder. Often wear uniforms such as aprons or jackets and gloves. Are often exposed to hazardous situations and conditions that produce cuts or minor burns. Are often exposed to hot and cold temperatures, such as when working near ovens or retrieving food from freezers. Work physically near others. May work near contaminants and hazardous equipment. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
