Basic Function: Under the direction of a Principal or District Office administrator, assist the food service worker by performing a variety of routine food service activities related to the setting up of servicing areas, preparing, and serving meals to students.

Representative Duties:
Essential Functions:

• Assist in the preparation, set up, and serving of food to students.
• Distribute milk to students.
• Collect lunch money.
• Maintain safe and orderly flow of students through service lines.
• Maintain work and serving areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.

Other Duties:

• Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:

• Food heating procedures.
• Sanitary procedures.
• Correct food storage procedures.
• Safe use and maintenance of kitchen ovens and utensils.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Oral and written communications skills.
• Basic first aid techniques.

Ability to:

• Use conventional oven to heat prepared food.
• Set up serving areas.
• Serve food to students.
• Learn nutritional values of food items.
• Maintain a sanitary kitchen environment.
• Perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public.
• Administer basic first aid.

Education/Licenses/Experience: Any combination equivalent to sufficient education, experience, and/or training to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Typically, this would be gained through: High School Diploma and some experience in the service of prepared foods

Working Conditions:

Environment: Cafeteria and kitchen environment

Physical Demands: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate food service equipment and prepare food items. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Hear normal conversation. Standing for extended periods. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to lift heavy objects.

Hazards: Kitchen environment subject to heat. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.

Pay: $16.83 - $18.56 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
