Basic Function: Under the direction of a Principal or District Office administrator, assist the food service worker by performing a variety of routine food service activities related to the setting up of servicing areas, preparing, and serving meals to students.
Representative Duties:
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the preparation, set up, and serving of food to students.
- Distribute milk to students.
- Collect lunch money.
- Maintain safe and orderly flow of students through service lines.
- Maintain work and serving areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
Other Duties:
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Food heating procedures.
- Sanitary procedures.
- Correct food storage procedures.
- Safe use and maintenance of kitchen ovens and utensils.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Oral and written communications skills.
- Basic first aid techniques.
Ability to:
- Use conventional oven to heat prepared food.
- Set up serving areas.
- Serve food to students.
- Learn nutritional values of food items.
- Maintain a sanitary kitchen environment.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.
- Maintain records and prepare reports.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and the public.
- Administer basic first aid.
Education/Licenses/Experience: Any combination equivalent to sufficient education, experience, and/or training to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above. Typically, this would be gained through: High School Diploma and some experience in the service of prepared foods
Working Conditions:
Environment: Cafeteria and kitchen environment
Physical Demands: Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate food service equipment and prepare food items. Seeing to read a variety of materials. Hear normal conversation. Standing for extended periods. Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to lift heavy objects.
Hazards: Kitchen environment subject to heat. Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
