Daybreak is looking for a Food Service Specialist to assist in our mission of providing Miami Valley homeless and vulnerable youth with services that promote safety, stability, and well-being. This position will play a key role in achieving our vision of a promising future for all youth.

About Us: Daybreak was established in 1975 in Dayton, Ohio as an emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Today, Daybreak operates the Miami Valley's only 24-hour crisis hotline and emergency youth shelter and has grown to include outreach, prevention, transitional housing, life-skills education, mental health services and other follow-up services for homeless youth.

Position Responsibilities: The Food Service Specialist will assists in developing a monthly menu that is nutritionally balanced. They will assist in preparing all assigned meals for youth. Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen and washing all dishes used in the meal preparation, cleans Food Service equipment (I.e. refrigerators, freezers, ovens, etc.) and restocking workstations. They will assist in designing and improving recipes, testing ingredients and the finished product to ensure each item meets food safety and quality controls. Maintains documentation relating to deliveries, inventory, and production levels. Assists in maintaining the food inventory, ordering from food distributors, and preparing lists of needed items to be purchased in-between food orders. Minimizes waste and maximizes product thorough usage of food items through careful planning, proper and well-organized storage, use of proven recipes and creative use of surplus food. Maintains organization of ingredients and supplies within the kitchen and storage areas. Ensures proper receiving, storage, and rotation of products to comply with health and food standards, such as rotating inventory as required by FIFO guidelines. Provides one-on-one and/or group cooking classes to the clients as needed. Provide a safe, thriving, and respectful environment for all youth in the program. Adheres to and upholds agency's mission, attendance policies and procedures and maintain and contribute to positive customer relations-both internally and externally (clients, staff, vendors, donors).

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED (required). Associates degree in Culinary Arts preferred. Experience working with adolescents and/or homeless youth preferred. SerSafe certification preferred. A successful candidate can Fully comprehend basic cooking and baking skills, including, but not limited to, food preparation, recipe conversion, food safety, etc.
