Position Summary: Under the direction of the VP of Food and Nutrition, the Food Service Director oversees the strategic direction and standards of guest service levels of Lied Dining and Hands of Hope Food Pantry. This position is responsible for creating and developing a service culture within these departments based upon sustaining people’s humanity and dignity by and through a compassion based service approach.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Establish plans of character, integrity and of quality which result in the long-range continued growth of the Food Service Division Front of the House;
  • Lead program initiatives with a hands-on approach; develop and demonstrate strategies that take the program or agency to the next stage of growth;
  • Is the primary point of contact for outside agencies relating to the Front of the House food operations and works with said Agencies to adhere to required procedures and policies;
  • Constantly evaluate operations with a mindset that will improve efficiencies and compassionate guest service under the guidelines of Catholic Charities policies;
  • Responsible for obtaining maximum results in the utilization and appearance of the service areas and Performance and Standards of Service;
  • Promote and instill a culture of inclusiveness, high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
  • Lead and mentor team members by providing positive support and guidance, and holding staff accountable for program plans and goals.
  • Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, and empower them to elevate their level of responsibility and performance improvements through positive reinforcement and effective leadership.
  • Effectively hire, train, assign, direct, counsel, discipline, and evaluate performance of direct reports;
  • Provide management oversight of employment and termination of employees;
  • Responsible for coordination of on the job training programs, with specific emphasis on Service through Compassion, via leadership training of department management on a regular basis;
  • Coordinate the development, interpretation and implementation of policies, SOPs, operating procedures and training programs, manuals, directives, work schedules, rules and regulations for personnel;
  • Oversee responses to client complaints and ensure all processes are fulfilled to grant specifications
  • Develop and maintain effective communications between all operating departments;
  • Participate actively in the strategic planning and periodic program evaluation in order to improve and enhance the CCSN’s mission and services;
  • Protect all confidential information, Agency property and electronic data. Comply with safety rules;
  • Other related duties as directed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, value human dignity and ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Knowledge of all Agency policies with a demonstrated ability to enforce Agency policies.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet necessary deadlines.
  • Proficiency operating computers with experience in HMIS, SAMS and Microsoft Office; specifically Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow directions, as needed.
  • Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Should be flexible, comfortable working with volunteers and able to handle interruptions and unexpected circumstances.
  • Reliable and effective communicator, Guest Service oriented and professional demeanor is required.
  • Culturally sensitive and able to work with a multicultural client/customer population.

Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience supervising volunteers or working within Guest Service oriented profession, with 4 to 5 years’ management experience preferred.
  • Experience in a Front of the House Food Service, Retail or Customer Relations business preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily works in Front of the House food and/or retail environment, but will also work throughout the agency and off site.
  • Ability to communicate with clients, volunteers and co-workers is critical.
  • High proficiency level to operate and use office equipment, especially computer, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to continuously sit and/or stand. Ability to regularly walk. Ability to climb stairs as needed.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, twist and grip items with or without assistance.
  • May occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; regularly lift 30 pounds.
