Food Safety Specialist

As a Food Safety Specialist, you will be responsible for independently performing all procedures involved in the Food Safety program including the collection and analysis of all environmental swabs, managing the internal microbiology laboratory and maintaining compliance with all GMP regulations.

What You Will Do At Acme:

• You will oversee the environmental monitoring of products to include daily swabs, running in-house pathogen assays, maintaining database for sampling and ATP testing, and partnering with third party labs as appropriate.
• You will manage and maintain internal microbiology lab and all equipment including calibrations, equipment servicing and appropriately cleaning/decontaminating all equipment as scheduled. You will also be responsible for all laboratory logs in accordance with state, federal, and third-party standards.
• You will oversee the food sampling process collecting and sending samples to third party lab for analysis and will manage all third-party results.
• You will participate and lead (as appropriate) the audit process to include GLP, FDA, BRC, BAP and customer based audits.
• The purchasing of laboratory supplies to maintain inventory will be your responsibility as well and documentation must be maintained.
• You will perform Food Safety training and annual refreshers for other employees as appropriate and will maintain the FS training database to ensure compliance.

Your Education & Experience:

• BS Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or Biology preferred.
• Minimum 1 – 2 years’ experience in ISO Certified Lab, microbiology environmental sampling program and/or demonstrable microbiology aseptic techniques.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Must be able to work in 38-degree temperature.

• Report all incidents including near misses immediately.
