Description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Food Safety & Quality Systems (FSQS) Superintendent is responsible for leading the daily activities on the production floor of the department. The primary focus of this position is to coordinate the responsibilities of the department with the Operations, Sanitation, and Engineering departments to ensure 100% customer satisfaction in all areas of assured supply, product specifications, quality, and FOOD SAFETY.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• The FSQS Superintendent will report directly to the FSQS Manager and indirectly to the Director of FSQS and is responsible for completing all delegated assignments in a timely manner that are consistent with the expectations of the company.
• The FSQS Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of process data input.
• The FSQS Superintendent will be required to continue to focus on adherence to product specifications, sensory attributes, PQI/food claims, animal welfare and related industry information.
• The FSQS Superintendent will perform daily travel paths with the FSQS Supervisors to identify and address opportunities impacting product quality, FOOD SAFETY, and workplace safety.
• The FSQS Superintendent is responsible for ensuring implementation of all facility environmental microbiology monitoring programs, including new equipment management and construction events in RTE environments
• The FSQS Superintendent is responsible for ensuring audit preparedness at all times.
• The FSQS Superintendent must actively participate in all facility Third Party and Regulatory Audits and be able to conduct said audits independently if needed
• The FSQS Superintendent is expected to target 25% of their work hours on the production floor monitoring and verifying implementation of the facility Food Safety Systems. The hours may be variable and include working on weekends and/or other shifts as needed
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The FSQS Superintendent directly supervises the FSQS Supervisors and the FSQS techs assigned to all three shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS

The FSQS Superintendent should be knowledgeable of HACCP and SSOP regulatory requirements and the implementation of those requirements.
The FSQS Superintendent should understand the entire production process and how those processes relate to HACCP and SSOP requirements.
The FSQS Superintendent should be a "Critical Thinker" and a self-starter with the ability to critically evaluate situations based on merit or information provided.
The FSQS Superintendent should be familiar with all facility FOOD SAFETY requirements and programs.
The FSQS Superintendent should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Meat Science or other related field and a minimum of 3 years Quality Assurance / Food Safety or other related experience or equivalent of education and experience is preferred. Leadership experience is preferred. Experience with implementing Statistical Process Control is also preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
The FSQS Superintendent shall attend and receive certification in both Basic and Advanced HACCP through any HACCP Alliance Certified program.
The FSQS Superintendents are required to attend annual food and plant safety trainings.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds to move product cases or documentation file boxes. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time as well as extreme heat and cold in the manufacturing plant that may require a person to wear PPE to include freezer jackets, eye and ear protection, rubber boots and a bump cap. Production environments range in temperatures between -10 to 40°F. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Domestic travel by automobile and/or airline meetings or trainings will be required periodically.
