Job Summary:
In the Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) department, we design, integrate, and optimize guidance, navigation, state estimation, and control algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps. The Flight Sciences department, within GNC, is looking for a motivated and dependable Control System Engineer to perform in the role of Flight Controls Section Lead (Senior Manager, Systems Engineering) at our Tucson, AZ location.
This position is an onsite role.
Responsibilities to Anticipate:
- The Flight Controls Section Lead will have a technical role on at least one program in addition to performing the day-to-day leadership of a group of Flight Controls engineers, with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement.
- Your duties will include performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
- You will contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide subject matter expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior Guidance, Navigation and/or Controls engineering experience.
- Experience in design and analysis of control algorithms
- Minimum 4 years of experience in air vehicle flight control design applications
- Experience coding in Matlab, Simulink and/or C++
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Value:
- Prior experience in a functional or technical leadership role
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and decision making skills that can drive consensus building, coordinate conflict resolution, and building an inclusive community
- Advanced Degree in STEM
- An active and in-scope Top Secret US security clearance
- Experience with control system integration and testing, including 6DOF simulation, flight software integration, modal testing, and flight test matching.
- Research and/or applied experience in advanced control design techniques in areas such as nonlinear, robust, optimal, adaptive, fault-tolerant, and real-time control
- Air vehicle autopilot design experience over a wide range of aerodynamic regimes such as subsonic, transonic, supersonic, hypersonic, and non-continuum flows.
- Knowledge of related disciplines: guidance and navigation; RF signal processing and tracking algorithms; embedded software development and hardware/software integration; system engineering design methods including requirements analysis and allocation, specification derivation and interface control documentation
- Ability and strong desire to facilitate career growth and knowledge transfer
- Experience with capture effort coordination and developing proposals to obtain funding, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation
- Ability to implement strategic goals established by functional leadership across the organization.
