We are seeking a Fleet Maintenance Manager who is an experienced and highly skilled professional who will be responsible for overseeing and managing our fleet operations program and fleet technicians. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance and repair of fleet equipment, continuously maximizing their availability and reliability. This role requires strong leadership, tactful communication standards, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain a comprehensive Fleet Maintenance program to ensure the best performance and longevity of company equipment.
- Conduct ongoing reviews of a preventative maintenance program which will minimize breakdowns and keep fleet optimized.
- Evaluate and implement effective strategies which will contribute to successful fleet operations.
- Manage and lead a team of shop mechanics by providing work assignments, schedules, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Oversee the daily shop operations by prioritizing and scheduling maintenance repair tasks.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and utilize maintenance support software and maintain status of all equipment. Continued development of computerized Fleet Maintenance program.
- Maintain financial controls which will balance expense minimization with a high standard of quality control.
- Provide technical support for fleet vehicles and equipment. Troubleshoot equipment/vehicle related issues.
- Expand company’s diesel engine and after treatment diagnostic ability.
- Develop diagnostic capabilities for cab/chassis, engine, and transmissions of fleet vehicles.
- Supplement labor and shop repairs during high demand periods.
- Develop/Maintain/Overhaul existing Fleet Maintenance program to include document of repairs, vehicle input and data updates.
- Generate work orders for vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Develop, install, and maintain a parts inventory system and files (determine parts needed by vehicle, crew, and manufacturer)
- Develop and define necessary work order parts and repair instructions.
- Build and maintain relationships with outside vendors to manage and negotiate competitive pricing for all reconditioning and maintenance needs of our fleet.
- Review and establish payment terms/payment schedules with existing vendors. Approve shop invoices.
- Order vehicle and equipment parts, field supplies, and all other necessary supplies.
- Schedule and monitor third party repairs.
- Monitor and manage all fleet inspections needed.
- Manage equipment and vehicle warranties (register new equipment/vehicles with manufacturers, monitor updates, make recommendations for new purchases.
- Oversee vehicle recalls with manufacturers.
- Perform a variety of additional duties as requested or identified as key to the successful operations of the department.
Requirements for the Role:
- 3 + Commercial mechanical experience
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in a commercial maintenance environment.
- Solid software application including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively and adjust according to continuous unexpected occurrences.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to flex schedule and work lengthy days to accomplish shop objectives.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical certifications and/or vocational training in fleet repair preferred.
