That's why our Fitness Instructor role is such an important part of our Parks & Recreation department. This position is responsible for teaching group fitness classes professionally and safely to our community members of all ages and ability levels. You will be successful in this role if you are enthusiastic about health and fitness and love to empower people to achieve their goals. We are currently looking to fill multiple Fitness Instructor positions in a variety of class formats including, but not limited to: active older adult fitness, barre, boot camp, cardio dance, Zumba Gold, and indoor cycling.
Hours: Varies. Fitness classes occur year-round and will be scheduled throughout the day on both weekdays and weekends. The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week on average and no more than 1,040 hours per year.
Location: Work will be conducted at our new Redmond Senior and Community Center.

- Bring a high level of enthusiasm to leading group exercise classes
- Demonstrate confidence in your professionalism by reporting on-time with a positive attitude
- Plan and instruct group fitness and wellness classes safely and effectively
- Develop positive relationships with participants and provide motivational support
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment for all community members within the facility
- Attend staff meetings and approved trainings as required
- Proven customer support experience
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Proficient in basic technology platforms such as email and Microsoft suite applications
The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Work is performed in community center in multiple programming spaces
- Instructor responsible for bringing own music to be used in portable sound system; wireless microphone is available for use
- Frequent communication with City employees and customers
- Hours will vary and classes may be scheduled in morning, evening, or weekends
- Move items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasion
QUALIFICATIONS
Physical Demands
The following represent the physical demands that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
- Work is performed in community center in multiple programming spaces
- Instructor responsible for bringing own music to be used in portable sound system; wireless microphone is available for use
- Frequent communication with City employees and customers
- Hours will vary and classes may be scheduled in morning, evening, or weekends
- Move items weighing up to 20 pounds on occasion
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience actively leading successful group exercise classes
- Current state approved First Aid/AED/CPR certification
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and a driving record that meets city standards preferred
- Must have First Aid and CPR certification within two months of hire
- Current nationally accredited group exercise certification desired (e.g. AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NETA);
