Job description

This position will be needed from 12:15pm to 6:00pm on Saturdays and 12:15pm to 5:00pm on Sundays and potentially an opening shift during the week based on availability. Applicants must be available at least one of the weekend shifts for at least 2 weekends per month.

The Fitness Attendant for the CCA YMCA ensures safety and support for the members in the Family Health and Adventure Center, Weight Room, Milam Multipurpose Center, and Family Fitness Center. The Fitness Attendant also participates in the member orientation for the Fitness Centers and is an important part of ensuring a great member experience in the areas. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of customer service and wellness as well as basic knowledge of fitness equipment and a passion for supporting people in their fitness goals.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Interacts with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals. Creates a welcoming environment for all members of all backgrounds and abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coaches members in support of their desired behavior change. Regularly checks on members progress in meeting personal and program goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Introduces new members to group exercise communities based their health and well-being goals.
  • Utilizes tools and information for the purpose of increasing member knowledge of wellness as well as wellness programs provided through the YMCA (handouts, schedules, etc.).
  • May conduct post-enrollment interviews to understand new members definition of well-being, personal goals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests and develops plans to meet their individual needs.
  • Reviews daily tasks, goals, objectives and completes any daily paperwork as requested by supervisor
  • Fully understands how to use equipment in all three centers (Free Weight Room, Family Fitness Center, and Health & Adventure Center)
  • Monitors Milam Family Multipurpose Center when no programs are running
  • Maintains and cleans equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Ensures compliance of members with CCA YMCA safety and wellness policies including, but not limited to, cleaning, attire, and any other policy that pertains to the Fitness Center(s)
  • Attends all staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Takes continuing education courses in LCDC or courses instructed by supervisor
  • Supports other departments when necessary, especially member services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicant must be 18 years of age
  • Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Passion for fitness, and ability to communicate the value and impact of personal training, group exercise and wellness to members and clients.
  • Must have or obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certifications within 60 days of employment
  • Ability to work with and around staff, guests, members, and other stakeholders while providing a welcoming atmosphere and good customer service
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred
  • Bi-lingual preferred but not required
  • Personal Training certification preferred but not required
