Expected Work Schedule: Up to 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, usually during normal business hours but requires occasional late nights, early mornings, and overnight travel.

Summary/Objective
Assist Fisheries Biologist with the management of Lake of the Ozarks and other waterbodies. Position is funded through June of 2024 with the possibility of extension.
Essential Job Duties
  • Collect and enter biological, physical, and chemical data from a variety of methods common in fisheries investigations, including electrofishing, netting, snorkeling, and water quality assessments.
  • Sampling may include sport fish, hatchery broodstock collection, species of conservation concern, aquatic vegetation, and whole community assessments from streams, impoundments, and/or wetlands.
  • Manage aquatic vegetation, both removal and establishment.
  • Perform laboratory work in a safe and precise manner. Could include preparing aging structures, identifying specimens, or taking genetic samples.
  • Create and maintain databases and historical records.
  • Maintain, construct, and repair equipment using basic tools.
  • Perform general administrative functions, such as answering phones and emails, research, purchasing supplies, etc.

Ancillary Job Duties
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • One (1) year of related professional experience or a Bachelor's Degree in fisheries, biological sciences, zoology, or closely related subjects.
  • Ability to pass an approved boating safety course and obtain a Missouri Boating Safety Certification Card within 6 months of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate boats, outboard motors, land maintenance equipment, power tools and large trucks pulling trailers.
  • Ability to use office equipment, such as computer, calculator, camera, scanner and printer.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and perform data entry.
  • Basic carpentry, mechanical and plumbing skills.
  • Experience with fishery science and wildlife management.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel and work varying shifts, as required.
  • Ability to swim and safely operate personal watercraft (canoes, kayaks) on streams.
  • Experience with fish identification and fisheries sampling techniques.

Work Environment
  • Regularly work in outdoor temperatures, including wet, hot, and/or cold environments.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities
  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Regularly operate tools and other machinery and relocate machinery to other areas.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more, three-dimensional vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds, correctly lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Concentrated attention is required at all times.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.

Exemption Status/Special Notes
