Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine orterrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Candidate will assist with database and spreadsheet management for NYSDEC non-game mammal monitoring programs for federal annual report writing. Candidate will primarily be responsible for entry and summarization of data collected during bat surveys. Candidate will assist with the transfer of rare mammal species occurrences data to the New York Natural Heritage Program. There will be opportunities for candidate to assist regional Wildlife staff with field surveys for mammals. The preferred candidate will have excellent communication and data management skills, ability to work independently and with other Wildlife staff throughout the state. Experience in the use of Microsoft office (especially Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required, while experience in GIS (e.g., ArcMap) and statistical languages (e.g., R) are preferred. Additionally, familiarity with the habitats of New York and the biology and management of mammal species native to New York State is preferable. As part of the Wildlife Diversity Section, the incumbent may also be required to assist Wildlife staff involved in the implementation of other programs as assigned.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 9/30/2024. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
