Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications: 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine, or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.Preferred qualifications: Waterfowl and marsh bird identification skills; good mechanical aptitude; wetland plant identification skills; familiarity with MS Word and Excel software, mapping (GPS/GIS), and data management; invasive plant control experience; experience with boats, canoes, 4-wheelers, firearms, and power tools; good communication skills, ability to work well with others, and a willingness to learn.
Duties Description Assist with all aspects of Bureau of Wildlife work, primarily in Wayne and Seneca Counties, including but not limited to: habitat and access work on Wildlife Management Areas; water level and wetland management; invasive plant identification and control including chemical control and the use of an aquatic weed harvester; grassland and wetland restoration; native seed collection; wildlife surveys; big game harvest data collection; waterfowl banding; ring-necked pheasant release; nuisance wildlife response; and Wildlife health monitoring.Other job duties include regular communication with the public, assistance with volunteer and public outreach events, equipment maintenance, and data entry.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.Travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 75pounds. Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.Most surveys involve early morning and late evening hours. Most of the work will be outdoors and can include areas with poison ivy, biting insects, adverse weather, etc.This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2024.
