Must take a written pipefitters test.
Job Summary: The Pipefitter will configure, install, fit, and maintain various piping systems, and ensure smooth operation of those systems.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves.
- Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications.
- Gathers equipment and materials for the job.
- Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes.
- Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering.
- Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems.
- Complies with safety regulations and codes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
- Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience:
- Successful apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods standing and stretching to install and repair pipes and pipe fittings.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must possess visual acuity required to inspect piping systems and read plans or blueprints.
- Pay depends on your experience.
