Job Title: Firmware Design Engineer Mid- Senior

Job Location: Huntsville, Alabama

Job Description

We are seeking a Firmware Design Engineer with 5-12+ year’s experience to join the development team in support of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) (GMD) system integration, test, and readiness (SITR) Program. Position is located in Huntsville, AL.

The firmware engineers will be primarily involved with integrating hardware and firmware together and conducting system tests using near-final hardware and firmware.

DoD Active Secret clearance prior to start

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 3+ years of experience with the design and technical development of hardware, firmware or software for Military, Space, or Commercial airplane systems
  • 5+ years’ of experience in software or hardware engineering, requirements, design, development, test, and working with software and hardware

Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical skills and ensure common practices are in place across programs and product lines within the SITR Program
  • Develops VHDL for FPGAs
  • Develops software applications for Windows, Linux, real-time operating systems
  • Develops software for embedded systems
  • Develops automated test scripts using National Instruments TestStand test executive
  • Develops software using C, C++, C#, LabWindows CVI, and Python
  • Interfaces with other AvionX engineers, project engineers, project leads and program management to execute program goals, objectives, projects and initiatives
  • Provides cross-functional technical execution, communication, process adherence, and process improvements
  • Manages automation test software development
  • Participates in SITR Change Control Boards (CCB), Readiness Reviews, Design reviews etc
  • Executes engineering tasks, projects, special assignments, and other activities required to support program engineering leadership and/or customer(s)

Possesses experience in many of the following applications and tools:

  • Relational Databases
  • Programming Languages (C++, Java, MATLAB, Python)
  • Operating Systems: Windows, Linux

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelors, Master's, or Doctorate degree in an engineering field (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
  • Experience with engineering processes and tools required to complete requirements development, hardware integration, verification, certification, leading into production and support services
  • Experience with new technology or product/capability development
  • Experience communicating with senior managers, customers (internal and external), business partners / suppliers / subcontractors, and government representatives
  • Experience providing directly and/or obtaining subject matter experts for firmware engineering technical oversight of multiple concurrently executing development programs from feature identification through entry into service and product support
  • Experience engaging collaboratively with management, technical fellows, teammates, suppliers, and customers while upholding high quality and safety standards
  • Experience with DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, and ARP-4754 hardware and software development tools, processes and standards
  • Experience with both Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies
