Job Description Overview:
The System Firmware Architect is responsible for managing all system BIOS, firmware and driver technical aspects of product development with Independent BIOS Vendor (IBV), Independent Hardware Vendor (IHV) and Outsource Design Manufacturers (ODMs). Collaborate with a team to develop system products from initial concept through retail launch.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Pathfinding firmware solutions and development model aligned with organizational strategies to meet the quality, schedule, and cost target.
- Driving all aspects of platform firmware and driver solutions including BIOS/EC/driver requirements and collaterals, design and implementation, validation and integration, software tools and deployment, and product launch and sustaining.
- Guiding IBV, IHV and ODM on firmware and driver development and assisting vendors receiving technical support from Intel SoC and CCE teams on critical issues encountered during new product introduction.
- Coordinating BIOS, firmware and driver development schedule, prioritization, and planning, and providing power-on debug, onsite support, and giving development guidance to IBV, IHV and ODM when needed.
- Providing technical support and training to partner teams of organization.
- Communicating essential status updates to senior management on BIOS, firmware, driver, and security regarding product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborating across functional teams, IBV, IHV and ODMs in order to deliver next generation products and technologies on time.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Be familiar with the BIOS signing process and working model with IBV and ODM.
- In-depth knowledge of PC architecture, IFWI, and EC.
- Demonstrated skill with C/C++, Assembly language programming in BIOS.
- Good understanding of IFWI-Windows interface, WMI, WHQL validation, WDA process, and WU submission process.
- Familiar with CPU initialization, chipset configuration, memory initialization, and performance tuning.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex problem statements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences of varied technical ability.
- Ability to work confidently in a rapidly changing, fast-paced and results-oriented corporate environment where a high degree of flexibility is required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Required Qualifications:
Years of Education
- Bachelor’s degree in either Compute Science or Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
Work Experience
- 10+ years of System Firmware Experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of advanced PC architecture and components as they relate to system design.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of firmware development and debug tools.
- Demonstrated experience with complex troubleshooting and system debug skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Be competent at managing high degrees of ambiguity.
- Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and ability to break down complex problem statements.
- Detailed understanding of the NUC product line and technical design details
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate complex ideas to audiences of varied technical ability.
Working Conditions
- Office Only: Typically works in an office environment
- Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other office equipment for extended periods of time.
- Occasional travel to visit ODMs or suppliers (in Asia) may be required.
