About our TOWNSHIP

Mount Morris Township is a township located in Genesee County, Michigan, United States. It has a population of approximately 23,000 people and covers an area of 35 square miles. The township is home to several parks and recreational areas, several schools, and a variety of businesses and industries. It is served by several major highways and has a rich history, including several historic landmarks., including the Mount Morris City Park, which features a playground, picnic areas, and a community center. The township is also home to several schools, including the Beecher Community School District.

About our FIRE DEPARTMENT

The Mount Morris Township Fire Department is a Paid on-call department that responds to a variety of emergencies, including structure fires, vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, and hazardous materials incidents. The department is staffed Paid On-Call firefighters who work together to provide the highest level of service to the community. The department also offers a range of educational programs and services, including fire safety inspections, smoke detector installations, and CPR training. The department is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for the residents of Mount Morris Township.

Station 1 (Central) is located on Bicentennial Drive behind the township hall.

Station 2 is located at 4136 N. Jennings Road between Pierson & Carpenter.

Area Covered: Residents on Carpenter and everything South of Carpenter, Clio Road South to Pasadena West to Elms Road and North to Carpenter.

What's a (FireFighter/Trainee)

A FireFighter/Trainee is just starting their career in the fire service. They typically haven't completed the required training and education, such as a fire academy, Entry-level firefighters may also be referred to as trainees, and they work under the supervision of more experienced firefighters as they gain on-the-job experience and training.

Duties of Trainee's

- Learning the skills and knowledge required to become a full-fledged firefighter, and completing the required Fire Academy.

- Working under the supervision of experienced firefighters, and following their instructions and guidance during firefighting operations.

- Cleaning and maintaining the firehouse and its grounds, including the quarters, kitchen, and bathrooms.

- Participating in training sessions and drills, and working to develop their firefighting skills and knowledge.

- Maintaining their physical fitness and health, and working to improve their stamina, strength, and endurance.

- Developing strong teamwork and communication skills, and learning to work effectively with other firefighters and emergency personnel.

- Building positive relationships with the community, and participating in community outreach programs and fire safety education programs.

- Demonstrating dedication, commitment, and a willingness to learn and grow as a firefighter.

- Following all safety protocols and procedures, and working to maintain a safe and healthy work environment for themselves and their fellow firefighters.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

1. Minimum Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

2. Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.

3. Physical Fitness: Applicants must be in good physical condition and must pass a physical agility test.

4. Driver's License: Applicants must have a valid driver's license.

5. Background Check: Applicants must pass a background check, including a criminal history check.

6. Residency: Some departments require that applicants live within a certain distance of the fire station.

7. Training: Applicants must complete a fire academy or training program, which may include classroom instruction and hands-on training.

8. Certifications: Applicants must obtain certifications in areas such as Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations, and CPR/First Aid.

9. Availability: Applicants must be available to respond to emergency calls when they are on duty.

10. Transportation: Must have a Ride to and from the Fire Department

11. Other Requirements: Some departments may have additional requirements, such as a psychological evaluation or drug screening.

PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST

A firefighter physical agility test is a series of physical tasks that are designed to assess a candidate's physical fitness and ability to perform the tasks required of a firefighter. The specific tasks typically include tasks such as carrying heavy equipment, climbing stairs, crawling through confined spaces, and dragging hoses.

FIRE ACADEMY

The academy provides hands-on training in areas such as basic firefighting, hazardous materials, technical rescue, and wildland firefighting. The academy has highly trained instructors who use modern technology and equipment to provide a safe and controlled training environment. The academy is open to firefighters from all over Michigan and is designed to provide them with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively respond to emergency situations. The certifications offered are recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and meet the standards set forth by the Michigan Firefighters Training Council (MFFTC). The specific certifications that firefighters receive depend on the course or program that they complete, and they may include certifications such as Firefighter I and II, Hazardous Materials Operations.

Pay: $11,887.00 - $20,320.00 per year
