POSITION SUMMARY:
The Firefighter is responsible for providing emergency response services, fire prevention education, and community outreach initiatives. This role involves responding to fire alarms, medical emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and other emergencies to protect life and property. The Firefighter also participates in training exercises, maintains equipment, and engages in public education efforts to promote fire safety awareness within the community.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond promptly to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and other incidents requiring emergency assistance.
- Perform fire suppression activities, including extinguishing fires, rescuing individuals, and preventing the spread of fire.
- Provide emergency medical care and assistance to individuals in need until advanced medical personnel arrive.
- Participate in training exercises and drills to maintain proficiency in firefighting techniques, emergency medical procedures, and hazardous material response.
- Inspect, maintain, and operate firefighting equipment, apparatus, and vehicles to ensure readiness for emergency response.
- Conduct fire safety inspections of buildings, facilities, and public areas to identify and mitigate fire hazards.
- Educate the public on fire prevention strategies, emergency preparedness, and safety practices through community outreach programs and public events, in alignment with Tribal policies.
- Collaborate with other emergency response agencies, such as law enforcement, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and disaster management teams, during multi-agency incidents and emergencies to ensure effective coordination.
- Assist in the development and implementation of fire prevention and safety policies, procedures, and educational materials.
- Maintain accurate records of emergency responses, training activities, equipment inspections, and other relevant documentation.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
- Excellent physical condition and stamina to perform strenuous tasks under challenging conditions, such as lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and wearing protective gear.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with team members, other emergency responders, and the public.
- Knowledge of fire prevention principles, building codes, and fire safety regulations.
- Familiarity with firefighting equipment, apparatus, and tools used in emergency response operations.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations.
- Commitment to maintaining professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Firefighter I certification within 1st year of employment.
- Previous experience in firefighting, emergency services, or related fields is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength, agility, and endurance, including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and wearing protective gear.
- Good vision, hearing, and hand-eye coordination to operate firefighting equipment and navigate hazardous environments.
- Capacity to work in confined spaces, adverse weather conditions, and environments with smoke, heat, and loud noises.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Successful completion of applicable tribal drug test.
- Successful completion of applicable tribal background check.
- Must pass background investigation for suitability of character identified in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
