This announcement is for an Industrial Firefighter that will perform 8-hour shift work Monday - Friday. Vallen Industrial Firefighters shall serve as part of an In-Plant Industrial Fire Brigade member. Firefighters report directly to the Duty Captain and or Fire Chief depending on location. You will need to be mechanically inclined and have a strong desire to succeed. You will provide service to safety equipment. You will inspect, test, provide maintenance and repairs to Life Safety Equipment to include fire extinguishers, hoses, monitors, respirators (SCBA), etc. You will also provide appropriate documentation ensuring accurate testing and repair. You will need basic knowledge of regulatory standards pertaining to State, OSHA and NFPA standards. You will respond and assist on all emergencies including, Hazard Material Incidents, Fire Operations, Search and Rescue Operations, both Confined Space and High Angle Operations as well as Medical Incidents.
Vallen Industrial Firefighters are expected to acquire a working knowledge of all fire equipment used at your assigned site, including the proper maintenance and inspection of such equipment. This equipment may include, fire apparatus, fixed and portable fire pumps, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, fixed and portable monitors, post indicator valves and deluge/sprinkler systems. Noise levels within the work environment may be moderate to loud requiring the use of hearing protection for prolonged periods of time. Vallen Industrial Firefighters will drive emergency vehicles and operate related apparatus in order to respond to emergency situations to perform firefighting activities including, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, preforming product line isolations and blocks and performing fire containment and extinguishment tasks. While performing the duties listed for this job, firefighters are frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls and occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear; lift or move objects up to 100 pounds. Firefighters participate in on-going training and education sessions.
Vallen Firefighters are expected to maintain excellent customer service skills while establishing effective working relationships with other employees, refinery management, and members of the public.
