Qualifications: GS-08:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Conducting fire safety training to groups; 2) Eliminating or reducing hazards where the expectancy and potential for severity is high; 3) Inspecting buildings for potential fire hazards (e.g. obstructed exits, presence of combustible materials, etc.); and 4) Adapting FIRE PROTECTION/prevention techniques to correct conditions or hazardous situations. NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position.
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications for the GS-08 level: Fire Inspector I and II, Fire Instructor I, HAZMAT Awareness, and State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). If State EMT is provided must obtain NREMT within one year of appointment. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC, or ProBoard to meet this requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible.
GS-07:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Understanding of Fire codes, directives, and instruction guidelines; 2) Recognizing flammable and combustible liquids, flammable gases, explosives, FIRE PROTECTION/detection systems, and building construction as it pertains to fire safety; 3) Investigating the cause and origin of hazards; and 4) Communicating both orally and in writing effectively. NOTE: Experience must be fully supported in your resume to be considered for this position.
For the GS-07 level: Entry-level fire inspectors must successfully complete any and all required training, to include being DoD certified in: HAZMAT Awareness, Fire Inspector I and II, and Fire Instructor I within a maximum of 12 months.
