Overview:
We are seeking a Fire Protection Inspector who will function as a firefighter on a 12-hour rotating shift performing skilled emergency and non-emergency tasks. This position resides in the Fire Department in the Laboratory Protection Division, Facilities and Operations, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
Extinguish all types of fires including fires involving structures, vehicles, and wildland
Perform varying levels of technical search and rescue including vehicle, confined space, and tower/antenna.
Implement operations level Hazmat duties.
Execute patient care within scope of practice.
Operate and maintain emergency vehicles and equipment.
Perform Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance on fixed Fire Protection systems and portable equipment.
Execute dispatcher duties.
Present fire safety instruction to the public
Maintain all training requirements for firefighter, emergency medical services, technical rescue and other certifications.

Basic Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Minimum of 5 years of fire department experience
Firefighter Level II Certification in accordance with the State of Tennessee Commission on Firefighting
Emergency Medical Personnel Paramedic, AEMT, or EMT License from the State of Tennessee
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
Hold a Tennessee Class D Motor Vehicle Operator’s License with an F endorsement.
Must be able to work rotating shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current certification with Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad EVOC/VKF/BPP or equivalent training/certification
Current certification with Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad Basic Extrication or equivalent training/certification
Current certification with Tennessee Association of Rescue Squad Operations Rope Rescue or equivalent training/certification
Experience responding to hazardous material emergencies as a member of a team
Experience performing inspection, testing, and maintenance on Fire Protection systems and equipment
Special Requirements:
Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
HSPD-12 PIV badge: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain an HSPD-12 PIV badge.
Q clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.
