The Fire Protection Engineer - FPE license
Lead the design, specification, and multi-discipline coordination of the following Fire Protection systems: Fire Alarm, smoke management, wet-pipe, dry-pipe, pre-action, deluge, and foam/water fire suppression systems.
Develop Fire Protection Engineering concepts, plans, and specifications, ensuring compliance with local and national codes and standards.
Collaborate with architects, mechanical and electrical engineers, contractors, owners, and other stakeholders to integrate Fire Protection measures seamlessly into project designs.
Review and approve Fire Protection system shop drawings and submittals.
Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior Fire Protection Engineering staff.
Lead project teams to perform site evaluations, document existing fire alarm and Fire Protection systems, inspections, and commissioning activities to ensure proper installation and functionality of Fire Protection systems.
Serve as a subject matter expert on Fire Protection matters, including code interpretations and compliance.
Interact with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams to address Fire Protection-related inquiries and requirements.
Quality review the fire alarm and Fire Protection calculations including the hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand, battery calculations, and voltage drop calculations.
Lead the evaluation of building and life safety requirements including building area and height limitations, building construction types, fire resistive assemblies and opening protections, occupancy classifications, hazards, building egress, and active and passive smoke management systems.
Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, review of contractor shop drawings and calculations, and field inspections.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities.
Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
Credentials Needed:
Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program. Requires a Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection Engineering and at least 7 years of progressive experience in the Fire Life Safety/Fire Protection field.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain access authorization to facilities and data of existing and potential clients, including, but not limited to DOD, GSA, DOS, and others necessary to perform work.
Knowledgeable in standard engineering design techniques and procedures. Knowledgeable in building codes, fire codes, NFPA standards, and military standards. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead project / discipline design teams.
Strong working knowledge of applicable ICC and NFPA codes is required.
Comprehensive experience in the evaluation and analysis of existing structures and operations against the requirements of NFPA 10, 13, 20, 72, 101, and the other NFPA codes and standards referenced by these documents, and the preparation of reports documenting the evaluation and analysis along with the development of practical, economical mitigation strategies to address noted deficiencies.
