ABOUT THE POSITION
The Clark County Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Fire Department Training Instructor. This position prepares, delivers, and evaluates public safety, supervisory and other training courses and classes which pertain to the Emergency Medical Services, fire service, management, and supervision. This class is responsible for designing and delivering training related to FIRE DEPARTMENT operations and public safety.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by the Office of Human Resources.
Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.
Candidates selected for interview shall be required to perform a timed presentation using audiovisual equipment and devices, as well as an interview.

EXAMINATION/SELECTION PROCESS:
Training Exercise and Presentation - 60% and Interview Panel - 40%

  • IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting 7th Edition - this book will be given to you at the Training Exercise or is available at www.ifsta.org

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience:
Equivalent to an Associate's Degree in Fire Science, public administration, management, education, or related field, and one (1) year of full-time professional experience in providing training or instruction, preferably in a public/fire emergency setting or safety related field. Equivalent combination of formal education and directly related experience will be considered. Preference will be given to those that have a public/fire emergency setting or safety related background. Candidates selected for this position will be required to attain Fire Service Instructor I & II Certification as specified in NFPA 1041 within one (1) year from date of hire.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Class C Nevada Driver's License.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Prepares, designs and delivers specialized training programs in the areas of fire safety and service operations, supervision and management. Assists in the scheduling of training classes/sessions. Coordinates training activities with other instructors and FIRE DEPARTMENT personnel. Obtains necessary equipment, space and other resources necessary to conduct training. Produces necessary instructional aids and documentation; reviews and adapts prepared instructional materials; develops instructional materials for specific topics; develops student evaluation instruments to support instruction and the evaluation of test results.
