Job Summary
The Fire Alarm/Security Alarm Technician is responsible for the electrical maintenance, installation, removal, modification, troubleshooting, and emergency repair of all security systems, fire detection, and audio/video equipment in residential and commercial buildings. This individual will apply electrical and electronic theory and related knowledge, to design, build, repair, adjust, and modify electrical components, circuitry, controls, and machinery for subsequent evaluation.
Salary: $25-33per hour (DOE)

Primary Job Duties
- Responsible for the maintenance, installation, removal, modification, troubleshoot, and emergency repair of electrical equipment and systems in homes and commercial buildings.
- Replace defective components or parts, using hand tools and precision instruments.
- Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment to diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of electronic components, assemblies, or systems.
- Calculate design specifications or cost, material, and resource estimates, and prepare project schedules and budgets.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
- Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
- Assemble electrical systems or prototypes, using hand tools or measuring instruments.
- Review electrical engineering plans to ensure adherence to design specifications and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
- Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
- Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
- Select electronics equipment, components, or systems to meet functional specifications.
- Compile and maintain records documenting engineering schematics, installed equipment, installation or operational problems, resources used, repairs, or corrective action performed.
- Procure parts and maintain inventory and related documentation.
- Ensure safety for yourself and the team by abiding by all applicable National Electrical codes, OSHA, and SoundWorks & Security safety guidelines.
- Respond to work order requests and meet project deadlines. Communicate progress and steps efficiently with customers and team.
- Possess any permits or licenses required by law or code.
- Responsible for low voltage electrical panel wiring, component procurement, and documentation on various types of internally designed test equipment.
- Participate in training or continuing education activities to stay abreast of engineering or industry advances.
- Works with other departments as directed.
- Recommend controls upgrades and implements changes.
- Research equipment or component needs, sources, competitive prices, delivery times, or ongoing operational costs.
- Provide user applications or engineering support or recommendations for new or existing equipment with regard to installation, upgrades, or enhancements.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
- Deep understanding of electrical principles, codes, test equipment, and safety standards.
- Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.) and electrical drawings and blueprints.
- Proven experience in electrical construction and troubleshooting.
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and legal regulations and guidelines.
- Proven ability to sell technical solutions and service product lines effectively and independently.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively explaining complex electrical concepts to non-technical team members and clients.
- Have excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Be detail-oriented, accurate, organized, and proficient in professional communications.
- Establish and maintains a positive working relationship with clients, vendors, agencies and co-workers to promote a quality service image.
- Position requires on call overtime work which occurs occasionally on nights, days, weekends or holidays.
- Maintain a positive attitude, professional, respectful and courteous behavior to team and clients.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the field working with low voltage
- Must possess a valid Electrician E, L, T, or C License
- Completion of electrical apprenticeship.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with limited violations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift 20 lb. daily.
- Ability to crouch, crawl, and climb to reach required installation and maintenance locations.
